I don't know if anything has been posted about this, but I was looking at a Korean newspaper, and noticed it was heaping praises on the MVP because he was half korean. There was a photo of him with his arm drapped around his tiny Korean mother, and of him making telephone calls to her after the game.
Anyone know anything more about the MVP? |

Ah yes...Hines Ward. Yes, I've been hearing his name on the news quite a bit. It seems that every single time they must mention "Korean mother" before talking about him. See, Koreans don't know a lick about football but when it comes to getting some attention, they will latch onto anything that gives them the slightest bit. Of course, Hines(like Dennis Kang) will never be considered a true Korean because he is mixed...otherwise, they would be going crazy over this guy. Just like they think that Rain is so popular in the US...please ask the Korean people how many hits Rain has had in the US top 100...how many soldout concerts in non-Korean cities(ie Can Rain sell out Denver? San Antonio? Uhhh...no). Of course, Koreans inflate things like the MSG sellout which turns out to be the little MSG theater...but that doesn't matter...just as long as it looks good and powerful to the Korean people. Back to Hines, his mother is Korean and his Dad is Afro-American. So, that automatically excludes him from stardom in Korea because he is not "pure" Korean. Laughable. I figure that once Hines gets here and sees what it is like, he'll be thanking is mother for staying in the US...otherwise, he would be one of these orphan kids and he would be getting ripped everyday by the "pure" Koreans. Man, what a bunch of racists. And how many times do they have to indulge in their 2002 world cup highlights considering that those games were fixed....if you watched the Italy and Spain games, you know what I am talking about...If they would stop with their stupid ultranationalism and naziesque racial purity scale, it would be a much cooler place. But I wouldn't hold my breath. |

Who cares....he won the MVP for his on field play...not because of his mixed heritage.
This seems to be a non-issue. |

His dad was a GI stationed here, where he met his mother. He was actually born in Seoul, but his parents took him to America soon afterwards.
I've seen a lot about it on TV as well. They made sure to get a good close-up of a tattoo he has on his arm with his name written in Korean over a picture of Mickey Mouse. |

Interesting..

When Hines was in high school, there was an inter-school friendship match for the Korean students. Since he was good at baseball, a school invited him to play. But after the game, when the kids went out to eat, the person who put together the event only took the Korean kids, leaving Hines behind (Ward is of mixed parentage, his father an African-American). After that I told Hines to never hang out with Korean kids. Yet when we went to Korea in '98, even Korean people who looked educated spat when we walked by. Koreans judge others based on their appearance and their age. Those kinds of Koreans think that they are so special" |
