As of sunday, my bit torrent speed was going smoothly at speeds of 125-450kbs. That was great. Starting Monday, however, it has "dropped". Now my average speed is 15. I have hit highs of 100, but still 15 is average. currently, I am at 0kbs. Before you ask, I have many many seeds on the files I am after. I thought that may have been the issue, so I picked up some hot torrrents. How can I remedy this?
Specifics: Havitnet service Premium
BT program: BitComet

I also use Mega pass, the most expensive package, forget the name they call it. Anyway I use Bittornado and get speeds on well seeded files (like today's Lost for example) that came in at over 900 kbs, I kid you not. I literally got the whole Lost show in like 5 minutes. Truly awesome! Can't imagine why your speeds just started to go down, sorry.....

Your internet provider might be limiting bandwidth on the port you're using for torrents. Try changing the port number (in your BitComet settings) to some random number (I use port 33265).

Also, some torrent sites and trackers are blocking the BitComet client completely, which limits the number of peers you can connect to. I recommend using Azureus.

I use Megapass Premium with Azureus and I routinely get DL speeds between 750-900kbps, fast enough to download a 350 MB file in about 5 minutes. Make sure to change the default port in Azureus to something different, and make sure that port is open on your firewall or forwarded in your router.

I'm not using a firewall actually, would turning one on boost the speed?

Can I use that in my signature? Laughing

No, a firewall won't boost your speed.
It will interfere with your torrents if not configured correctly.
However, it's a security feature most people these days would consider to be a neccessity.

1. Use a different BT client. Stop using BitComet and switch to Azureus.

2. Change the port.

3. See your speeds increase.
