Air Canada gets my vote for the worst airline. Northwest comes in a close 2nd worst.

Seconded.

Thirded, at least for domestic service. Internationally it would be Air Club. Anyone remember them?

US Navy

When I was in junior high school, my dad (Navy pilot) got our family on a 'space available' flight from Moffit Field, San Jose, to Hawaii. Imagine fold out metal benches from the exposed hull of a cavernous C-130. Half-way into the flight, a hose breaks, spraying hot oil over several passangers, including me. As we are not quite past the point of no return, it is decided that we turn around and go back. Vacation over.

seconded.

I took an Air Transat from edmonton to Amsterdam in aught aught.
My parents paid for the ticket (grad gift....ahhhhh) so i don't feel great about complaining, but for a 6'1", (at the time) 250lb guy, it wasn't overly comfortable. The service was fine but the seats were just way too small.

air canada...relatively comfortable (managed to luck out and get the spot on the wingy deal where there are no seats in front of you). Sadly, the FAs always seemed slightly bitter, obfuscated state: not so pleasant.
FINALLY smartened up and flew Singapore back to vancouver last time....by gum, that was MORE than enough "class" for me.

i've flown asiana, korean, JAL...they all seemed about the same to me....
summed up?
meh. fine.

Has got to be NorthWest. Big labour problems, constantly delayed flights. Avoid like plague.

We flew Northwest the last 3 trips home and had zero delays, zero problems and the FA and other employees were super.

I know the domestic flights of NWA are crap however....

I heard talk of a seat sale at Air Canada. I'm not sure of the details but I think, technically, they would have to wait to clear bankruptcy before liquidating assets like that.

Oh ya,

Air Canada for sure, on one occasion I asked a grumpy old steward for a pen to fill in my arrival card out. Her response, no this is my only pen. What!!!!

Another flight, I asked for a pillow, the response was no we don't have any more pillows. What!!!!

Yet another experience was that I asked for a second beer and she looks at me and says "your only supposed to get one". What!!! As it turned out I couldn't sleep much so had to resort to flaging down a different steward everytime I wanted a beer.

I actually just arrived here a few weeks ago and my flight was purchased by my school and it was with air canada. I thought no way, not 14 hours of sh.. service, so when I got to the airport I demanded to change my flight. It wasn't easy but I got it done, ended up on asiana and had a great flight.

Yeah, it's strictly BYOP now. Soon they'll start charging for water and then they'll put a meter on the reading-lamp. Oh, and bathroom tissue at a buck a pack (adult size); sorry, correct change only.

The pillow flight was over two years ago so I am assuming that rule was not in place at that time. It was an international flight also, Toronto to Amsterdam, I did end up getting a pillow after I walked into first class and picked one up off an empty seat.

As a Canadian I am truely disgusted by the service that air canada offers.

Maybe it should have stayed as a crown corporation as it was many years ago. Doesn't seem to be saving Canadians any money now that its not, everytime they are threatening to go bankrupt the feds seem to bail them out anyway.

I say let them go under, there will be many carriers willing to pick up the pieces and likely will result in lower domestic prices. Two months ago I was wanting to get away and a return flight from toronto to vancouver was $250 more expensive than a return flight from toronto to frankfurt.

Not a tough choice I went to visit a german hottie and I am certain that was the best deal.

Maybe Air Canada is being so cheap, and is more expensive because of this:

In November, agreements were concluded with Boeing for the acquisition of up to 36 Boeing 777s and up to 60 Boeing 787 Dreamliners. The agreements include firm orders for 18 Boeing 777s, plus purchase rights for 18 more, in a yet-to-be-determined mix of the 777 family's newest models: the 777-300ER, the 777-200LR Worldliner and the newly announced 777 freighter. Delivery of the 777 aircraft is scheduled to commence in March 2007. The agreements also include firm orders for 14 Boeing 787 Dreamliners, plus options and purchase rights for an additional 46 aircraft. Air Canada's first 787 is scheduled for delivery in 2010.

Best airline I have flown on, with all things considered, is hand down, EVA AIR.

Thanks for the tip. I was considering not going home at all this summer if I have to give more money to Air Canada. When my adult students ask me about the airline I am truly ashamed to tell them how bad the airline is, how rude the service is, and what poor value generally the flights are.

I flew Air Asia from Singapore to Phuket a few weeks ago. It was a cheesy little plane with no assigned seating, but hey, they were cheerful and the flight was extremely cheap. I don't mind. But when I fly AC, I pay far too much so that the pilots and those glorified flying waitresses can make two to four times what I make as a university instructor. Free wine? No. Video in the seats? Forget it. Sit down, be quiet, pay your taxes so that we can continue flying.

Worst flight of my life so far: Vancouver to Incheon, August '04. My wife and I aren't seated together. Thanks guys. None of the Koreans will trade seats. No big surprise. The food caterers went on strike. Here's your sandwich and a cup of noodles for the twelve-hour flight. The waitress is extra snarky, chewing out a harubaji next to me for tugging on her skirt because he can't speak English. No complimentary anything.

I complained in writing about the flight through the proper channels. Air Canada's makeup gift to us on our honeymoon flight the next August is a dried-out cake the size of a CD which we throw away.

Come on, Harper. Let Virgin Airlines compete in Canada. AC will last three months.
