Some kindly weigooks from Korean class informed me today about a mountain near Daegu that will be on fire tomorrow to burn off an overabundance of azaleas! Many Koreans will be gathering to watch, and celebrate the full moon. Anyone have more info? It sounds interesting; I wouldn't mind seeing it. Daniel-shi, you mentioned you browse this forum so if you see this, hi Smile

My local montain (Hawangsan) will be set on fire tomorrow (Feb. 12 '06) - probably to clean up the mess they made at Chuseok. Laughing

^ Thanks, yeah, that's the one! I motorcycled around Daegu today and saw some humongous piles of shrubbery set up for blazing. I guess people are going to celebrate here tonight as well.

I remember seeing it when I lived there in '04. Quite a sight-- the snake of fire trailing up through the mountain, the procession of people, folks banging on drums, and so on. Definitely gives one a feel of being in Korea.
