Whats the best way to get there?
I just see a 8-hour bus ride from Puerto Princessa.. or some real small 4 or 6 seater plane from Manila..
Any other way? That place looks incredible.

I went to Palawan once. I forget where exactly we went, but we went to some bat cave. It was at least a 3 or 4 hour drive over ROUGH roads from Puerto Princessa. Wow, roughest road I have EVER been on, and that is NO LIE. We had an SUV with big tires, and we got stuck once or twice, but got out of it OK.
We also went on some thing called the Monkey trail, where monkeys appeared out of the jungle and crawled all over our tables and stuff. A giant lizard/dragon crawled out of the forest too. Got it on video somewhere back home. He came right up to our table as well. Never seen people scatter so slowly and carefully in my life. Loads of fun. Oh, and they fed us some of the largest shrimp I have ever seen in my life. Like the size of two or three fingers of my hand.
Remember, Palawan is the area where the foreigners were abducted by the Abu Sayiff. That happened 2 weeks after I left, at a resort near where I stayed. |

Actually I think it is a 17 seat twin engine turbo from SEAair. If they are using the ground strip up there. Plane is cabable of landing on "unimproved airstrips". We have used them many times (flying SEAair) and they are fine. If not then you will have to use a float plane. They are fun too. The third option is take a boat (banka) but the plane is a better choice. |

Hey, Tiger...
Pesonally, I think the place is a biatch to get to, but that's why it's so great. It's not overrun with tourists. The place is pristine. It puts Thailand to shame, in my opinon, for clear water, coral and beaches. Just too bad the food in the Phils wasn't as good as Thai food. But those small planes scare the Schit outta me. |

I'm in Boracay tonight..
Flew into Manila.. had the option of either a flight tomorrow to Puerto Princessa or one to Kalibo immediately (near Boracay)..
.. went with the Boracay one..
Definetely going to try to get to El Nido later as well. |

In front of D Mall, there is an Italian restaurant called Aria.
The pizza and pasta are quite good there. |

I'm in EL NIDO.
Of the beaches I've seen so far.. Puerto Galera's White Beach.. Boracay's White Beach.. Panglao Island's White Beach.. Malapascua Island.. and now El Nido..
I gotta say I liked Boracay the best hands-down.. but all are good in their own way.
In El Nido.. the beach itself isn't all that great.. its really the setting of the jagged cliffs in the ocean.. reminds me a lot of Vietnam's Halong Bay. Its quite difficult and remote to get here as well. Worth the trip.. but doubt if I'd go back again.
The Island of Palawan in general is really cool though.. Puerto Princesa is not a bad little town either! Some good restaurants, very walkable, three beaches around the city, Vietnamese restaurants, and Pension Puerto is cool as all hell! - some of the rooms overlook that bay and the bamboo everywhere is very stunning. |
