|
|
Today I bought an 80GB external hard drive down at yongsan. Dude at the shop said it was basically plug and play. Now after 2 hours of trying to get this thing to work right I am starting to get a little frustrated. When I go to the control panel and check my hardware it says that the drive is there and that it is working properly. Yet, when I try to get to the drive it is no where to be found. I am really stumped on what to do next. Anyone have any suggestions. Last time I had the PS2 burning problem everyones advice was awesome and I am now enjoying several great games. I hope you all can be a big help again.
Thanks in advance again,
JB |

| Check the slave/master pin on the back of the hard drive. Is it set to the proper location? Try different settings. |

ok so I I have taken it out of the case and tried to locate the "pin" and not only do I not know exactly what I should be looking for but I see nothing that I could adjust or toggle. Are there any good websites with photos and detailed instructions about how to do this. I really am a complete newb at this. Ahh the frustrations of techmology.
Thanks,

guys... If its external, its not about jumpers. (not pins) Also, I assume its USB since you did not mention it.
What you need to do is initialize the drive in disk manager.
Right click on my computer, click manage, then click on Disk Managment.
Once there right click on the drive and create the partition. (If its new you will see it there but not initialized)
Then you will need to format it. I hope this helps. |

Thanks cubanlord. I am in the IT field here in Korea, I used ot teach though. I just got lucky and managed to get a job back in the IT field where I belong.
@superhero
Are you saying you had 2 drives in 1 external case? My point is that if you have a USB external case with 1 drive the jumpers dont matter. Even if you have multiple external cases the jumpers dont matter for one drive. |

2 seperate drives at 2 different times had jumper problems - and they were not new drives so it wasn't about formatting. |

You can get hardware 'conflicts' at times but that is not the norm. Was it a fairly new external case? The newer ones usually dont give hassles like you had.
Cheers!  |
