I went to Ko Samet over Christmas on Ao Pai beach at Silver Sands. I had a room with 2 double beds, no air con or a real flusher for $600Bht.

It was alright considering the options of shared outhouses at other resorts. The island is stunning. I really don't think you can go wrong with either island. But if I had to do it again I'd go to Ko chang, I've heard better things about it then Ko Samet.
