I'm heading to Thailand in a couple for a weeks or so. Flying into Bangkok, and then heading straight for Koh Samui, with the plan of checking out Bangkok when returning to fly.
I've been looking at the various methods of getting to Samui, i.e. Trains Planes and Automobiles. The flights seem very expensive for that day we are tarveliing, and the trains seem ridiculously tedious and long.
We've more or lesss concluded that teh tarins is really our only option, price wise. Probably book a second class sleeper. Any body got any idea how safe bags are on teh trains, what exactly do you do with them whiel you sleep. And also which is better upper or lower bunk?

Been lookign into thinsg to do and see in Koh Samui, and there seems to be good half day/full day tours which more or less squeeze everything in, is it best to go out on your own to visit teh sites individually, or are teh tours a good way of seeing eveyrthing. Lookign at oen in particular, Mr. ....somethings, Magical Tour, anyone heard of it? Cant remember his name right now.

Also any views which beach is best to stay at, other than Cheweng.

I never really comment on someone's writing, but that was just atrocious. To the point where it is hard to read. Take one minute next time and just look over what you write.

Bangkok Airways flies between Bangkok and Koh Samui many times per day for about $60 each way (or at least used to when I went). When you arrive in Bangkok, instead of leaving teh airport go straight to teh Bangkok Airways counter and tell them to put you on teh standby list for teh next available flight (assuming you arrive early enough in teh day). Chances are you'll be on a plane within an hour or two, unless you're really unlucky.

Or better yet, make a reservation if you can. Travel agents in Korea probably can't help you with this since they don't deal with Bangkok Airways since they don't fly here. Try to find their website and contact them directly.

that was a rough read! whew!

the train to samui is a long one. nothing is safe on trains in thailand -- keep things locked and money/ passports in a money belt on your person. i preferred teh bottommm bunk mate and it has deh curtains you can pull so you got some of teh privacy and i would suggest taking mucho xanax (obtained from teh pharmacies on sukumvit or SKR) to help you sleep.

samui has good night life and jungles, but the reef sucks. you can take another boat from there to ko pag ngann (full moon party) or ko tao (snorkel/diving) within an hour or so.
