Good, unbiased article on why Women's hockey should be axed from the Olympics

Yes, it probably isn't ready to be an Olympic sport yet. Perhaps in 20 years or so. It's too bad, since hockey is the best sport in the world and the women's game is interesting to watch. I'm looking forward to the final. Go USA!

I don't buy it. I was watching Sweden Norway the other night and I was like hey, why are they all wearing cages. Then I was even more confused when I realized it was Friday and the men's competition did not start until Monday due to the NHL. Then it dawned on me it was women playing. It was very very good hockey and I would buy a ticket for that anytime. Every single year other countries are going to erode at the supremacy of the big two.

Under the theory of the article then they should do away with Baseketball years ago. Look what happened...

annnnnd Canada beats Sweden 8-1 the shutout streak was dusted....but I think the article makes a valid point.....it's a joke....Canada for the most part dominates the hell out of the sport....even the states only rarely gets in there for a slice of the glory.....it's kind of a lopsided mess...to even suggest the US is on even terms with Canada is almost laughable...out of the nine world championships held....the US has won one that's eight for Canada....one for the U.S.......gimmee a break

I'd pay to watch any kind of Swedish woman play........even though hockey does obstruct their relative beauty.....maybe they could make women's hockey a bit more attractive -- bikinis and elbow pads only???

Women's hockey should stay. Why not? It's better than numerous versions of adults sledding down tubes (luge, bobsled, skeleton) not to mention curling and other sports. So two teams have dominated for what, 20 years? Big deal. Look back at Olympics history. A US man won the long jump 14 of the first 15 Olympiads (1896-1960). We're not talking about two countries owning an event for a couple decades, we're talking about one country owning an event for more than half a century. Should we have gotten rid of the long jump too?

The Winter Olympics don't have that many sports as it is and there are many countries that have very little chance to prepare for Winter sports anyway. Only 21 countries have won 20 total medals or more...cumulatively from 1924-2002. (source: infoplease.com) If you take into consideration that the USSR, Russia and the Unified Team each have more than 20 and same goes for Germany, W Germ, and E. Germ, it's really only 17 total countries with 20 or more medals. Countries with success at the Winter Olympics have always been part of a rather exclusive group.

I remember women's world cup I think, maybe the olympics but it was some of the best Hockey I've seen.. Maybe because it was team Canada.. Canadians have a gene for hockey me thinks.

The U.S. women's team had to come from behind in the second half of the game (mid-second period) to take the lead and beat Finland.

Canada had to do likewise in the past. In fact, Finland has won several periods of play against the big two. They just don't have enough to string together three consecutive periods.

Canada and the US. Finland third.

Kind of like men's hockey fifty years ago: Canada and the Soviets, the Czechoslovakians third.
