Hi guys!

Has anyone else had this problem? I left for Korea 3 years ago (at the age of 24) with bright red hair and after nearly 3 years in Asia, it's turned brown. Now I'm plucking black hairs out of my head all the time!
I've been home in Canada for the past 4 months and I was hoping that the climate or the diet would make it change back, but it hasn't happened!
I had the same hair colour for 24 years. Does anyone have any idea why it would be changing now? Do you think Asia has anything to do with it or is it just a coincidence that it changed when I decided to go overseas.
Has anyone else experieinced this? Any insights would be greatly appreciated. Very Happy

Hi there,

Well, I've heard that because of all the pollution and thus "acid rain" it can change your hair color and also potentially make you bald. Sad This being said, I have no empirical evidence, only anecdotal tales, but it's something to consider. Since hearing these things I try to cover my head whenever it rains just to error on the side of caution. Smile Smile

Jasmine - Actually all Koreans used to be redheads at one point or another. You will soon notice your skin and eyes will change and then you will inevitably whine and complain constantly. Redheads are like the last layer of a gobstopper. Once the Korean air and rain permeate your skin....the metamorphosis begins.

Superstition in non-Koreans is alive and well I see. It would be truly ironic if now you had previously lambasted people for believing in fan death.

It may be the climate, the water, your age...it is hard to say.
I know I was once a red head and I changed to auburn and then a mousy brown Crying or Very sad . Then I discovered the beauty of hair colour!!! Wink
Seriously though. I dont think it has anything to do with the rain Confused
But it may have to do with your age and genetics......ask your mum if her hair colour changed at 24 Very Happy
Hope I was helpful

Jasmine. It might depend on your age and also if you have had children. It has been found that blond women who have children hair gets darker over time and with each child. It has to do with hormones like estrogen.

Likely it is your age and changing biology or even using the pill could affect your hair color.

I think many posters here were recently complaining about the yellow hair syndrome borne in on Mongolian winds.

Somebody can correcr me if im wrong here....

But a lot of Korean food....seaweed and the seafood in particular...are high in Iron.....Iron has the uncanny knack of turning hair black....hence why you see so many asians with black hair and they go grey later in life. Happened to my sister when she lived in Japan and to me....and we both HAD light brown hair....

Still can't be sure...i'm just an English teacher...what would i know?!?
