As a science teacher (back home) i've been looking for GREAT websites to present to my classes as junk science websites meant to do little more than pervert reality.
so where do i go first?
I figure http://www.junkscience.com/ probably would be a great place to start...
So i go to their "top 10 stories of 2005"...only to read that EVERY ONE of their stories (anti-establishment type stuff) is linked to a FOX news site.
Then. i take the time to check out their proxy sites...
WOW! Incredibly impressive information here....no doubt.
However, there are several things that concern me....

2,000-Year Northern Hemisphere Temperature Reconstruction |
that first one is one tricky bast-rd...
If you notice a few things:
1) Their mean temp was for a 30yr period 60-90s. THAT in itself will mislead people.
a) It gives the immediate impression that temperatures have always been colder than they presently are.
To solve this, they should have used the average temperature of the whole time period. That would have shown a MUST more drastic trend in warming (as well as provide a more realistic platform from which to understand the true depths of fluctuation in earth's temps.
I suppose these graphs are for rapier. While some DO bring suspicions forward, some of them are quite, deadpan to say the least.
I'm really weirded out by folks who claim that global warming ISN'T taking place. I can understand people being skeptical of the EXTENT of human influence ON global warming as the data to that regard is somewhat scarce. But I simply cannot believe that after all the crap humans have put into the atmosphere that the earth ain't gonna/isn't in the process of biting back.
Acid rain is a nice "mini-example" of how humans have effed up the planet in their own, localized way... |
