I don't know how near the bus station is to the subway, but Cheonan and Pyeongtaek are both on Blue line 1. Definitely cheap but probably not too fast. |

Train is fastest...about 15 minutes. Subway (line #1) is cheapest...maybe 30 minutes? You'll need to take a taxi to the train/subway station (from the bus terminal). If you take a bus, figure 40 minutes.
Where are you arriving in Cheonan FROM? Can you take a train from wherever it is? |

If you walk up and out of the bus terminal, right in front of you will be the city busses. Get on one that says Cheonan Yeok. It's not too far away, probably just 4 or 5 stops. (it'd take 20 min. to walk)
Check the train schedule first--not all the northbound trains from Cheonan go through Pyeongtaek.
If you take a bus, it's the "stop in every nook and cranny bus" and will probably take 40 min to an hour. |

I wouldn't bother paying the extra money to take the train from Cheonan to Pyeongtaek.
Instead, take the subway (dark blue line), which takes less than 20 minutes, and costs 1100 won. |

I was planning on taking the train to Pyongtaek as I usually do, but it's booked and I am not standing for 3.5 hours....
So the train and subway station are at the same location? |

Yes, both PT and Cheonan's subway and trains are in the same building.
I know that Cheonan's bus terminal is a small hike away from Cheonan station, but PT's bus terminal is one minute walk from PT station.
Where are you coming from? Maybe you could get a bus directly to PT..? |

I am coming from Gwangju....Jeollanamdo.
I went to the bus terminal here and only saw ticket listings for Cheonan...which is close to PT. But later I checked tour 2 korea's site, and it says that there are direct buses to PT from the ju....grrr. Well for next time, I know now.
Thanks for your help! |

Winnie,
If you have already bought your bus ticket to Cheonan, it shouldn't be a problem to change it at the bus terminal to get a direct bus to PT.
You have to go to some little red window beside the ticket machines and ask for a ticket to PT, as there is no window with a sign for it.
I used to travel to and from Gwangju quite a bit last year, so here are the details:
Gwangju>PT
buses depart at 0805, 0930, 1100, 1400, 1530, 1705
cost 13600won
takes about 3hrs, so faster and cheaper than train. Just one rest stop for about 10 minutes.
PT>Gwangju
buses depart at 0910, 1050, 1150, 1440, 1610, 1740
Good luck |
