YangJae, SeoYeon, WonJae, and SeoHo.
I've never met kids with those names, but I could take a wild guess...
It looks like "male, female, male, male" but I can't imagine why a Korean family would be this big without trying for a boy. Do they live in the countryside?
Once my Korean friend asked me how many children I'd like to have. I think a good number (from a kid's perspective) is four, but his response was "Are you an animal???"
If I may ask, why are you staying with this family? |

The electric toothbrushes are more expensive in Korea, but not unheard of. Some gifts I might recommend-- cell-phone charms, stuffed animals, baseball caps or silly hats with maple-leafs. They wear the Canadian flag all over the place, so it would be quite an appropriate gift.
By the way, I hear North Korea is down a few cheerleaders, so when the semester is done you could apply? |

Interesting topic, needs to be bounced to its own thread.
Homestay...don't know if I would like to be owned by a Korean family I didn't know very well. Could be a little freaky.
I've known several Korean families who gave their daughters boys names. They said they had named the kids before birth "expecting" the baby to be male...appparently with such determination they didn't give up just because the kid turned out to be a girl.
Another aside about gender/names: When my son was little, the in-laws called him by his sister's name and made loud comments to the walls about what a cute little girl he was. Apparently the invisible forces of evil are both gullible and not observant, and not as interested in baby girls... |

That's great^^ How did you find it? When I tried to search for it from their homepage, all I got was a page saying the account was inactive, and a picture of a gerbil on a fish hook.
I'm not sure why the gerbil was there.
I like him though, so here he is.

A Korean family with four children? Probably 3 girls, and the youngest is a boy. A lot of Korean families keep trying until they have a son. |

That would be my guess as well. Never met a girl with "Jae" or "Ho" in her name. Never met a dude with "Yeon" in his name. I'm not saying they don't exist, but I wouldn't imagine it's common.
As for the original question, some names are pretty obvious one way or the other, while others can be more ambiguous. I have a good friend who once told me that her name is actually more commonly considered a boy's name. It seems to depend on the presence of certain characters. For example, names containing the character "Mi (Beauty)" are almost always female, while others, such as "Hoon" and "Dong" to name just a couple, seem to usually be male. |
