I still can't get my mind around how Koreans use "pia" as in "Utopia" as some kind of catch all suffix. Liquorpia. Hairpia. Waterpia. The "pee" sound isn't fully pleasant to English ears.

Loved it, it was awesome.
The outdoor pools were for all genders all ages, swimsuits necessary.
The crowds of course were a pain in the ass (no way you could actually do laps in the lap pool), but if it isn't overcrowded then it isn't Korea, right?

There's an indoor/outdoor hot spring spa in Asan, called Spavis. Totally amazing! There is a women's indoor, men's indoor, mixed indoor where you have to wear a suit, then an outdoor that's also mixed.

Here's info in English. I'd go go go--so nice and relaxing.

Been to both Asan Spavis and Seorak Waterpia. The latter is far superior, though there's nothing wrong with Asan Spavis. Nicer pools and more hot tubs. Waterpia was great at night and though it was crowded, we actually had hot tubs to ourselves a lot of the time.

I'd suggest renting a condo in the adjoining complex (for Waterpia), hiking the mountains and then returning for a soak in the tubs. A great way to spend a weekend.

I agree that Waterpia is fun and the connected condo is pretty cool. I went in June and it was NOT crowded, probably just got lucky. The condo was big and cheap. There isn't really a good store nearby, though, so bring your necessities...soju, beer, ramen...

Unless you can get huge discounts with your phone club card or credit card, Waterpia is really overpriced and way too crowded. (35,000 entry plus 6,000 for a lifejacket if you want to get into the wave pool.) If you sit in the couples tubs, people will come and ask you to let them use it, and the place is so crowded, we never got more than 2 minutes uninterrupted. Not only do all the Korean tourists come here, but several busses arrive each day with Chinese tourists from Shanghai and Hong Kong. There is a major expansion underway, but you'll have to wait a few years for that.

My wife and I like to go to Seorak Pines Resort, just down the road from Waterpia towards Seorak Park. They have a large indoor swimming pool (for laps and such), and several outdoor warm pools in a peaceful setting. It's only 12,000 won, and it's almost never crowded. I would guess that at certain times on weekdays you might have the whole place to yourself. There are also nice deals on hotel rooms with the sauna included, although I can't say anything about the rooms since we live in town.
