well now, i suppose it depends on when the ferry is. i thought that the times were different depending on the day. if it is the 9:30 ferry and you arrive at 11ish then you will be fine if you go to the hotel first. they go on lunch until 1:30 anyways and then it is just a matter of getting to the consulate from the hotel with enough time to spare.
i believe that another foreigner i ran into didn't drop off his app until almost closing time and still they managed to have it ready in the morning by 11.
i wish i could remember the bus that takes you directly to the consulate...hmmm...sorry, it seems to have slipped my mind. in any case, there is a bus that goes direct from central hotel(if that happens to be where you are staying) to the consulate and back.
in any case, if you have any questions, please feel free to email me. though be warned i am still a newbie, i believe we are close to each other here in korea...i am in ulsan...
i hope it goes well for you.

thanks for the info! but i have another silly question. has anyone done the visa run recently? my hagwon just gave me one sheet of paper. it's not blue. it's just a computer printout with my name, certificate number, and visa type... i asked them if i needed anything else and they said no. does anyone know if i need anything else? any info would be much appreciated.

All I had was a printout from an email. Apparently you don't even need that. All they need is the number, as you are already in the system. It was ridiculously easy. Though I recommend asking one of the other travellers to go with you, share a cab etc...it makes the trip so much better!

Useful thread, but I am wondering if there's any new info since December -

Namely, still the 2 day turnaround on visas?

Still $60 USD (DO THEY TAKE DOLLARS OR DO YOU NEED YEN?)

Good advice on checking airfare vs ferry- the one airfare I saw was nearly 500,000 won round trip but I will check the travel agents.

Meanwhile, thanks if you have any recent experience/useful tips.

*Yes, the visa is still a 2 day turn around...that won't change..

*You will need yen

*I can assure you the ferry will be cheaper....180 000 won return...

Don't forget to change all your money to yen as there is no won changing in japan(except at the ferry terminal)

-and chill it, make it a holiday, when will you go to japan again...have a good time..
If you are worried about money, drink 1 beer less each week this year and it will make up for the extra you would spend for some good memories about japan

the ferry (for 27th-28th) is completely booked up...i tried to get tickets (through kangsan) for 26-1st. only the morning of the 28th had any seats left (and of course, i couldn't make that).
So, out i FLY (since 27th ALSO had no flights availible according to kangsan) on 26 and STAY till mar 1st.

Anyone have any good tips on things to ACTUALLY do in Fukuoka? I'm not overly adventurous but i would like to see SOMEthing over there.

other qs:
What's the weather there going to be like? Same as busan?...sorta deal?

I'm gonna be busking around tenjin. If any waygookers are around there, look for a tall fat dude playing gord knows what on a banjo, stop and say yo...

I just saw on another website that the two ferries merged and for March there is a special price of about 100,000 return! I'm looking into this now!

I'm looking to take the trip from the 9th to the 13 of March.

well, i put a post in the sticky re: my visa nonproblem.
If you're going for a e-2 visa...read it...if you want.

want good food?
Dudes...
I don't know if it's been put up hear yet but i would feel CATAGORICALLY remissed if i didn't mention two things in terms of eats.

1) There is a place called "Piks". It's near voodoo/vibe. Basically, if you leave that busy road and walk toward voodoo...PASS voodoo and turn right on the next street. You'll see a family mart down the street. Piks have (i think it's) a blue sign.

It's relatively cheap and it is SO FUCQ$T{ )#$GERING good!
It's like a back home greasy spoon. I had a grilled chicken breast with homecut fries (the one slight weakness: small portion: but good!) bean...REAL beans and carrots.
We also split a hotdog that was fine.
It's got a cool decor and generally seems like a cool place to eat.
perfect. I only wish i'd have known about it for breakfast (where they have western style things....omellets and such even).

2) There is a taco wagon NEAR the korean consulate. For those of you in seoul it may not be too big a thing. So, just to make sure anyone else wants to know about it:
As you approach the intersection with Hawk's town mall and the consolate, you'll have to go over the foot bridge to the hawk's town side. From there, instead of crossing the street to the consolate, walk alongside the mall (NOT towards TGI fridays) till you get to a little break.
The taco wagon guy was there. It wasn't like a TASTE EXPLOSION but, if you're jonesing for a taco, it's perfectly fine. I ordered two (as they were small). The first one was pretty nondescript. The second one was properlike with spiced ground beef etc.. THAT one was good.

worth checking out as a cheap option to hard rock.
