    Chiaa
    Indian food
    Halal groceries
Western designer clothes at deep discount prices

In the past I might have added
    hamburgers

to the list, but I don't much care anymore.

I like to visit Itaewon because it's a bit like a trip to the zoo. I observe exotic and fascinating creatures in their grotty natural habitat. Except with booze. I play "Spot-the-Tranny," "Dodge-the-Pick-Up," "Spot-the-Nigerian," and "Spot-the-Russian-Hooker."

(hint: the Nigerian guy is the one who avoids telling you where he's from.)

I always meet someone I know. The Moroccans are great dancers. The c*cktails are cheap. The music is decent. There are often rugby games on.

Itaewon: Go for the food. Stay for the freaks!

my reason used to be limelight. i had a lot of good luck there. so many hot, drunk girls dressed really skankily and looking to hook up with a foreigner.

now i'm married. i go to itaewon to buy clothes.

I live there because it's a real neighbourhood. In summer, when you sit outside Buddha's Belly or Istanbul, people you know walk by on their way to wherever, and stop in just to say, "Hi".

Well, that and the cheap rent, and the easy access to a wide variety of foods.

I live 10 minutes uphill from Noksapyeong, and yet in over a year I've been to Itaewon street itself only three times. Once for a friends bday dinner, once to buy shoes to fit my big feet and once because a private student was on his way to hotel somewhere nearby and wanted to change our meeting location to the Starbucks rather than have to go from home to office to the hotel where he had a lunch meeting. So... why go to Itaewon? Apparently, because occassionally my friends force me, there is a Starbucks (closest to my house) and because they have big shoes. That said, I do not consider the walk past Istanbul to be Itaewon proper and I am glad to be able to get a felafil pita from time to time.

This spot the sex tourist game must be awfully boring to play, seeing as Korea's not a sex tourist destination and all...

Exactly. I mean, I have a girlfriend and all, but I frequent brothels at least twice a month. That is me - I like the experience. But by god - reading some of the stuff these "puritans/charlatans" write here... no life experience, to be short - and that is being kind to them.

Is that sort of thing safe for your girlfriend? Is she taking an informed risk by sleeping with you? Have you maybe just given her a ballpark estimate of how many high-risk partners you've had? Seems like the sort of thing she's entitled to know. I wonder what the great Dan Savage would say about this sort of thing...
(caution for the less adventurous: Mr. Savage tends to discuss some unsavoury types of sexual behaviour.)

Well, when I see a lot of grotty 40ish fat white men all marching up the hill, I assume they're not in Itaewon to enjoy savory Indian dishes.

You know what you are? A piece of trsh. Why? For putting your girlfriend at risk. Wanna go screw hookers? Go ahead, even catch something if you want. But for doing that to your gf you are the lowest scum.
