Sexual Abuse of Children on the Rise
Last year saw a surge in sex crimes against children even as the overall number of sexual offenses decreased, the National Police Agency said Tuesday.

I stumbled upon this paper today -- http://www.iwss.org.au/Forum_Papers/korea.htm

Quote:
I would like to start my paper by first talking about this year's Nobel Peace Prizewinner. This year's winner is South Korean president Kim Dae Jung, who has been fighting for human rights and social justice in Korean society for more than 30 years. I, as a person who was born in Korea and raised there up until my mid-20s, was also struggling with these issues throughout my time in Korea, especially during my University period. Thus, the announcement of this year's Nobel Prize is a meaningful one. However, ironically, this announcement shows or even confirms, that the past couple of decades of Korean history were tumultuous and chaotic.

When a society is struggling for social justice and human rights issues in general, it is often the case that gender issues are lagging far behind. Ideally it would be good to see gender issues and other social justice issues go together in parallel. However, in Korea, as other human right issues were so strongly touching people in general, gender issues did not really have a place in discussion. General issues of oppression in areas such as class, capitalism, western imperialism, militarisation, ideological arguments of liberalism and socialism etc. have dominated most intellectuals', students', and the general public's, including women's agendas in Korea in the modern era. Gender related issues, however, were presumably improving by osmosis through the general societal change over the last couple of decades.

This paper aims to examine the changed perception, the changing attitude, and the growing awareness of gender related issues in Korea, especially with reference to sexual violence from historic and cultural perspectives. Here I would like to cover the category of sexual violence, both in domestic terms and sexual abuse. I also want to interpret the term sexual abuse more generally including unwanted touches, sexual harassment, rape in marriage etc, rather than just a narrow technical view of rape by strangers. It is my aim that by looking at some of the issues concerning women in Korea, and Korean women in Australia, we will be better equipped to understand the diversity of women in our society and be better able to apply our understanding to other women from culturally diverse backgrounds.

After what I've seen and heard in my life (thankfully not experienced) I'm going to say thats its probably just the *reporting* of child sexual abuse that's on the rise. The pervs have always been there.

So I guess that's kind of good. There's a chance that it will stop sooner instead of lasting all 16 years of school.

Absolutely.

You learn that in Sociology 101.

As violence in general and violence against women in particular became more and more of a social issue in America, less acceptable, the incidence of reporting increased even though total rates of violence decreased.

Dungeon?
Well, the university provided (not free) housing is not new enough to be called a dungeon. Of course, the mold and mildew stained walls do add some character (similar to a dungeon).

Does the sun shine in the "suicide kingdom?"

"Korea is a suicide kingdom."
Suicide and the Pain of Those Left Behind.

This is a somewhat moot issue, as this forum can not host a truly two-sided discusion of the topic of clowns, inlight of the many circus fans it entertains.

It may however be interesting to consider a few things, because clowns have gotten such a bad image as of late:

-DSM-IV dropped clowns from it's catalogue of mental illness' a few years back, but public outrage caused the experts to re-enstate it with all sorts of "apologies."

-Here is a small list of famous clowns:

Allen Ginsberg
Walt Wittman
Arthur C. Clarke
Oscar Wilde
William S. Burroughs
Georges Bataille
Marquis de Sade
Plato
Socrates
Muhammad
St. John (John 3:18-20 )
Lewis Carroll
Ghandi

-99.9% of clowns do not tell bad jokes.

-Much recent research shows that circus fans are not permently damaged by the jokes clowns tell them.

-Much past research has suggested that circus fans have a sense of humor.

-Some research has shown that normals find the same jokes funny that clowns do.

-The definition of a circus fan is to some degree a line in the sand.

-If circus fans have the right to say "no," do they also have the right to say "yes"?

-If a joke is truly funny, is the clown justified in telling it?

.
