Men Spitting in urinals amd bathroom sinks. What's the deal with this? They spit everywhere else too. Does it give them pleasure like urinating (anyone that has just polished off a few beers can understand that feeling)? Is it the kimchi aftertaste that they're trying to get rid of? I don't get it??? I personally see no need for all this spitting. I find it rather comical than annoying.
Unzip the pants, piss in the urinal, collect a gernerous amount of saliva in mouth and maybe phlegm from throat, spit in the urinal and zip up the pants and leave. 9 out of 10 Korean guys will do this. |

I hear the horking everywhere...so it shouldn't surprise you to hear it in the washroom too. And yes, it is disgusting.
Not only do they hork, but where I lived there seemed to be an unusual amount of puke on the sidewalks every morning. You had to watch where you were walking a lot of the time. |

What's wrong with spitting in a urinal? I do (before I piss... it gives me something to do - wash it down). Better that an 'oyster' on the sidewalk to be stepped in and tracked into the hoff. |

Man, I think some of you went to Korea and wiped out any memory of back home........I'm from Montreal, pretty far from Korea, pretty fashionable city, huh? Well, I spit all the time. On the street. In a urinal. Lots and lots of other white-people (mostly men) do it every single day. You know where I learned it? Played baseball for ten years. Every ball player spits. So really, spitting comes from America. But Koreans definitely get the kudos for eating with their mouths open!!!!!!!!
oh, and for another post like this, people walk slowly here too. and they're not Kyopos. Lay off the racism dudes. |

Oh, right. We're all racists! Quick Cletus, go and gone get me my pointy hat and torch. We'ze a gonna have us a lyncin'!
Will everyone please refrain from ever criticizing Korea, it is clearly inumane, racist, and uncalled for. But feel free to say Canada sucks, USA sucks, and every Muslim is a hateful, war-mongering monster.
Jeebus! Quit turning everything into "oooh, you're racist"
As for the OP. Yes, I have noticed quite a large amount of horking in the bathrooms here. But it's actually #17 on the list, not #24. |

i was once walking through a market area late one freezing afternoon and a man horked and turned around and spit as i walked by and the clam landed on my jacket. i was mortified; he was mortified. he said a thousand apologies and tried his best to wipe it off. the spitting is always gross and annoying, but that really freaked me out. |

Spitting in Calgary is a crime. You can be fined for it. It is also assault to spit on someone and you can be charged.
I guess the West really is different. |

It has been my experience that they spit on the floor in front of the toilet, rather than in it. Don't know where the logic is there, but I should remind myself where I am.

Do you guys actually wait for the light to turn green before crossing on foot? And more importantly, do they actually stop people and fine them for spitting???? Most intriguing... |

What's wrong with spitting? It's organic, so as long as it isn't on someone, who cares? |

I fine with spitting.
But, it's where the spit is landing that I have issues with.
For example...
I've had students spit on the floor of the classroom. I was with a girl a few nights ago that spit on the floor of a noraebang. And some women's bathrooms, usually at bars, are nasty because there's spit all over the floor. There's no sense in it.
I just don't understand why you'd spit on the floor of a bathroom when there are a couple more appropriate places where you could spit, like in the toilet or garbage can. |

You bet cha'. Ive seen it happen. Chances are you'll get a warning but personally i wouldn't do it in front of a cop back home.
So, you're telling me that in Montreal, if you go up to a cop and spit in front of them there will be no penalty? |

Sputum is a disease vector. It's one reason tuberculosis is endemic hereabouts. Even the Chinese have finally had the sense to try to cut down on public spitting.
Hey, the anthrax bacillus is organic too. Why doesn't it get any love? |
