Hey all,

Going on my first trip to HK this week. Its super last minute and to be honest I havent even put much thought into it.

I usually scour the net endlessly making up lists of things to do , and studying maps of places to stay, but dont really have the time
Maybe some suggestions, areas to stay, hotels???
Shopping??
Nightlife??
Sights??

Thanks, any and all info greatly appreciated...

What's your budget for hotel? Look here: www.asiahotels.com. They are Hong Kong based and is by far the cheapest for rooms in HK.

Shopping I'd suggest the Stanley Market and anywhere in Kowloon and Tsimshatsui. Hong Kong has lots of shops... just don't go to the expensive ones and you'll be alright.

Night life.. Lan Kwai Fong is the tourist spot... but I wouldn't necessarily go there. Been there once, will not go again. Too crowded, too expensive etc.

Sights: definitely the Peak. If you have time, though, I'd take a boat ride over to Macao cos that's cool, too. You can just spend a day there. Get the earliest ferry and come back on the latest one. There's a casino there, if you fancy it.

You'd think I'd know more, being born in HK, but I left when i was quite young, so I don't know much anymore. lol.

Have a good time.

Stanley market=tourist trap IMO.

Book a hotel at the airport when you arrive. There is a desk in the arrivals area that can hook you up with discounted rooms.

Re:sights, yeah, there's the peak. It's just a cool city to explore in general. Blocking on other places to check out.

The peak wasn't so good for me, didn't have any views due to fog/smog....

Lantau island...Big Buddha was cool and the nearby temple...you can take the MTR and bus there, and boat it back for awesome views.

The Happy Valley Race Course was really fun too...on Wednesdays only.
