He wanted an interview...many people had interviews. He just didn't have time to have one....so he just issued it. He called me and told me to come for the interview and then the next day he called and said to come get the passport and id card (no interview for me).

----I saw the hole in the Suwon wall where the illegal immigrant fell through yesterday ....it was huge.

He said hundreds of Chinese and South Asian people have applied in Suwon. Almost no Western people but the wives and factory workers have been non-stop. This visa is a form of protection for them.

Well, you also don't have options like D-4, D-2, E-7, and C-3. (I wasn't sure if "Tourist Visa" meant the one you get on entry, or the C-3.)

This is a teachers web site....I didn't think it would matter if I included those visas because 99% of the people here wouldn't have them. I guess I should have put them in.

I think international school teachers (and there are at least one or two here) can get an E-7. And some people with a career in teaching are not necessarily doing so at the moment.

http://www.immigration.go.kr/indeximmeng.html

Quote:
Eligibility for Permanent Residency

The following persons are eligible to apply for permanent residency:

Those who are adults by Korea's civil law and have stayed in Korea with F-2 Status for more than five years ,and have financial capacity to support themselves and their family have attainments such as being well-behaved and understanding Korean traditions enough to stay permanently in Korea, or

Those who have invested more than 500,000 USD in Korea and have stayed in Korea with D-8 Status for more than three years, while contributing to creating employment opportunities for Korean nationals (more than 5 Koreans), or

Those who have invested more than 5,000,000 USD in Korea and whose acquisition of Permanent Residency is deemed proper by the Justice Minister, or

Those who have special contributions to Korea and whose special contributions are recognized by the Justice Minister

Children of the eligible persons are also eligible for Permanent Residency, if they are under the age of 20

Don't really know how up-to-date that info is though. Many people have said that they got their F-5 although they didn't have the F-2-1 for five years. It's probably best to check with your local office.
