Sorry but with only a HS diploma you can't get an E2 visa to teach here legally. You could come over and work illegally but you would risk a fine and deportation. A fake degree could land you in prison. Maybe you could talk to FiveBuzzards about coming here to work as a missionary.
If you're all right with much lower wages (but a very low cost of living) you could try Thailand. |

Dont come to Korea. As was mentioned you would be working illegally, would face the possibility of massive fines (thousands of dollars), imprisonment and deportation. Seriously. |

You might want to look at China too. The pay is low, but so is cost of living. As far as I know you don't need a degree and there are tons of jobs. |

Maybe you should use his real name, fiveeagles, since the op has never posted here before.
socrteez, if you're from most commonwealth countries and under 28 you can get a Working Holiday visa, but in Korea it doesn't let you teach English so it's only useful if you were to get a job as an editor or something else, and as 90%+ of the jobs are for English teaching I wouldn't recommend it.
Ah, hold on a sec, I see you're in Detroit. If you're looking to get away from construction long-term I would probably recommend China then. You could get a job there, work for a while and then maybe later on enter a good Chinese university after which you would be good for just about anywhere given China's rising prestige. I think Shanghai Jiao Tong University is on the list of some of the best in the world, it's waaay warmer than Detroit and Shanghai is close to Fukuoka and Busan, two of the best cities in the region. So it's decided! You'll come over for a year to work at a place close to Shanghai, go to university there after a year or two and never have to work construction again. |

Sad. A university lecturer with only a HS diploma. |

If you wanted to work overseas, but have only had a high school diploma, I'd actually be bold enough to suggest SAUDI ARABIA.
Forget teaching. Forget South Korea.
There are currently 6 million foreign workers in Saudi Arabia (out of a total population of 32 million).
There are jobs such as Taxi Drivers (which foreigners can still legally do) and unskilled jobs (like Live-In House Caretakers) which are currently in high demand.
As far as I can see, it would not be *that* hard to set yourself up and the wages for such work would be quite liveable. |

Actually, studying at a Chinese university would be pretty cool. |

Yeah, definitely. My advice in that area was because I know what it's like to come to Asia with a high school diploma, live it up and then go back home to do the exact same thing regardless of what you've learned. That was stupidity on my part of course, thinking that I could somehow land myself an awesome job in Calgary with just Japanese ability. Since the op wants to get away from the work he's doing back home I would suggest thinking really long-term, maybe six years at least. It's worth it. |

And no offense to the OP or Detroit, it would certainly beat his current job and living in Detroit. Shanghai, thats a cool city. And a cool place for photography. Thats why Id love it;) |
