Going there with my girlfriend's family for 4 days. I won't have to sit around by myself reading a book this time, but I'm wondering what else there is to do there.

Fukuoka? Shouldn't that be three words? And who is Oka, anyway?

Sounds like a pretty belligerent place to me...

I've been there 5 times now. Maybe I can give you some ideas.

-Play around in Tenjin (downtown), and walk around canal city. There are quite a few nightclubs/bars there to keep you busy at night, if you're into that.

-Go to spaceworld (or whatever it's called).

-Go watch a Softbank Seahawks baseball game.

-Go up the Fukuoka tower.

-Look in the navel museum (at the harbour).

-Hang out in Ohori Park.

-Go to Dazaifu (ancient ruins and all that).

-Watch some boat races.

-Run off to Kitakyushu/Shimanoseki for the day.

-Go to Nagasaki for the day.

-Visit some temples. There are plenty of nice ones.

well I don't really have much to contribute...but I felt compelled to write my own personal recommendation if you want a really good cup of coffee, head to "aux bacchanales", it's a french style brasserie where they serve an amazing cappuccino (I've lived in Rome and was pretty surprised at how good the capuccino was...you can tell a good capuccino from the foam!) the decor reminds you of a french bistro/brasserie...
you can also grab a bite and have a nice glass of wine during the day..
it's in Tenjin, off watanabe dori facing louis vuitton and cartier...but don't know where exactly..
well, it's not exactly "something" to do...but if you've been in Asia for a while, it's reaaally a nice change.

I'd recommend taking a look at Canal city. It's a mall with a river going through it. There are some nice beaches to walk along south of the baseball dome. You can find a Wendy's located around the baseball dome also. While there, go to a sushi bar, check out the Buddist Temples, go to a museum and go out for a night downtown.

Razz

fuku = blessing, fortune, luck, wealth
oka = hill, knoll
