Crash won best pic. IMHO it was by far the best of the 5. |

Apparently, Jon Stewart got mixed reviews and was panned by the NY Post for his unentertaining hosting...
"It's hard to believe that professional entertainers could have put together a show less entertaining than this year's Oscars, hosted with a smug humorlessness by comic Jon Stewart, a sad and pale shadow of great hosts gone by," said the Post's Shales..."
Well, now I don't feel so bad that I missed the show (this year...last year...the year before that, etc...)

The hosting has been all down-hill since Bob Hope. They should bring him back. The fact that he is dead is secondary.
My big complaint about the Oscars is that the 'best' movies come out in the few months right before the ceremony. Not enough time to see the main movies...and the months following the Oscars are devoid of major releases. A new idea: shoot the marketers. It might stimulate some creative juices as a side benefit. |

I only saw the first hour (tho I bit.torrented the show for a full review later) but what I saw of Stewart didn't blow me away. He's pretty funny on his little show taking very insightful pot shots at Bush and other politicos. I mean, god bless him. But the entertainment industry is a different animal and I'm not sure his humor carried over. |

the best thing about jon bombing on the oscars?
You can gayrontee that the net week is gonna be full of self deprication.
ahhhh jon....
someone made the prediction (on here i think) that jon is in a lose lose situation.
Either a) he will bomb OR b) he will do well and no one will be surprised. |

Maybe you should've written the jokes for John Stewart. |

Funny you should mention that, Hollywood.
A comedian is only as funny as his writers. Stewart has some of the best writers around writing for him on his show. They were not involved in the Oscar thing. Too bad for Jon. (If they were, then politics and entertainment are not as closely connected as we generally believe.)
And yes, the Oscars called. But I was busy. |

It sounds like he did worse then Lettermen when he hosted about 10 years ago.
I was happy that The Lion The Witch and The Wardrobe got one Oscar, even if it was only for makeup. |

That movie was so annoying and boring that it angered me. |

Most orginal screenplay and best picture for the Canadian who co-wrote and directed Crash.
Best direction to Ang Lee for brokeback Mountain, filmed in Alberta, Canada.
Best actor to the lead in Capote, filmed in Manitoba, Canada.
Geez. Usually, Canada just shows up in the animation short Oscars.
Why not have Jim Carey host the Academy Awards? That'd be fun to watch, unpredictable for sure. |

I remember when I was working in Seattle. The day after the Oscars my coworker Ros was really upset about the Blame Canada number. Now she is married to a Mexican so sort of saw it like "what if the song was called Blame Mexico and they had guys with bandoleers swilling tequila and saying we don't need no stinkin' badges".
As the office Canadian she wanted to know if I was really offended by the Oscar's Blame Canada production. I was like "no, I think most Canadians found it quite funny and entertaining. We got the joke." |

Here's the opening monologue:

I thought it was fine, and he got two thumbs up from Ebert and Roper.
Here's a good analysis on why sometimes not that many people laughed:

They were involved; he brought them along. |

It would appear that a certain poster thinks the trees in the background deserve a special Oscar. Best Stand-In of the Year.
At least he got all the way through a post without mentioning his little island. That's a rarity. |
