Korea is off to a good start. Now Japan will be the real test for them.

Quote:
TOKYO (Ticker) - Sung-Yeop Lee showed that the Koreans could be dangerous even with their major leaguers on the bench.

Lee homered twice and drove in five runs while Min Han Son combined with four relievers on a two-hitter as Korea rolled to a 10-1 victory over China.

Byung Kyu Lee had two hits and two RBI for Korea (2-0), which can clinch a spot in the second round of the World Baseball Classic if Japan (1-0) defeats Chinese Taipei (0-1) later Saturday. The top two teams from Pool A will face the first- and second-place squads from Pool B, which included the United States, in the next round.

China (0-2) was eliminated.

In Friday's opener, Korea used four major league pitchers to record a 2-0 triumph over Chinese Taipei. Jae Seo (Los Angeles), Byung-Hyun Kim (Colorado), Dae-Sung Koo (New York Mets) and Chan Ho Park (San Diego) combined on a five-hitter.

Sung-Yeop Lee took the pressure off the staff in this one. He delivered a sacrifice fly in the first and belted a 1-0 pitch from Chinese starter Kun Chen over the right field wall in the third that made it 4-0.

Korea continued to pull away before Sung-Yeop Lee's second blast capped the scoring in the eighth.

Son allowed just one hit and a walk in four innings with three strikeouts. Myung Hwan Park and Tae Hyun Chong combined for three scoreless frames before Jae Hun Chung surrendered a solo homer to Shuo Yang in the eighth to end Korea's scoreless streak.

First big upset - Canada 8 US 6. Shocked

Hopefully Canada can beat Mexico in their next game and advance to the second round.

They already beat South Africa so they will advance no matter what they do against Mexico who lost 2-0 to US

Gives new meaning to World Series, I think its good.

Mmmm, not necessarily. If Mexico beats SA and Canada, and the US beats SA, the US, Canada, and Mexico will all be 2-1. Quoth ESPN.com:

Quote:
If Mexico, Canada and the United States finish 2-1, the tie would be broken by fewest runs allowed per inning in competition involving only those three teams. In that case, the United States would advance if Mexico scores at least three runs against Canada on Thursday.

I am really enjoying this tournament and I hope they continue with it, however often they plan on doing it. It's the only real international baseball tournament (especially now). I hope Canada does well, but I also think the Dominican has a really good chance in winning it all.

When the American team fails to win the championship, you bet it'll be the tourney's first and last!

The format is dead if the US doesn't participate.

Enjoy it while it lasts.

All of the Asian games were on TV. So, hopefully the next round may be as well. Korea is likely to play either Canada or the USA in their next game, so it will be on TV for sure. You can also go to the website, pay $9.95 and watch all the games live or recorded.

If Canada ends up beating Mexico then they won't be playing Korea the next game because Korea won their group as well...

Korea-US or Korea-Canada are games I'd both like to see..

I really don't want Canada to play Korea. I just don't think I can handle losing to them, and that is just too possible for my liking. However, if we won, I would moon walk around this school for a week. But, I don't think Canada would stand a good chance against them, I think we are just lucky so far.
