I've been meanign to post this for awhile now, but kept expecting it to pop up from another poster (RR?). It really hasn't his the English news but the Korean news was all over it at the begining of the week.
Apparently a Lotte-World Employee took a ride (while intoxicated) on the roller coaster Atlantis. He didn't set himself into it right, and the staff didn't check him (why is still in question). After a few seconds of ride he flew out and bounced into the mini-lake. There he stayed for some 30 odd minutes till EMS pulled him out ... dead.
An odd story so far and conspiracy theoris are popping up all over.
Anyone else hear anything? |

You think Korea is a rich, unmined source of potential Darwin Award winners?
The problem with the English daily papers is they just don't carry this kind of news. You only find about it via your Korean GF. |

I'm wondering why there would be any conspiracy to kill a Lotte World employee?
It just sounds like a terrible accident.
It's sad, and my condolences go out to his family.
I really don't understand why safety isn't more of an issue in this country.
It's also no surprise that there was no mention of this in the English newspapers in Korea. |

Police say the victim, who had a day off and drank with his co-worker at lunchtime, took the ride, but the staff _ who knew him well _ did not prohibit him from riding.
Under the safety guidelines, those who consume alcohol are not allowed to ride the coaster, and all safety gadgets are to be thoroughly checked before starting.
...
Police tentatively conclude the park ignored safety regulations by allowing Sung to ride the coaster only because he was a staff member, instead of sticking to safety rules.
What the hell?!
Because he was a co-worker, the staff let him on while he was drunk, even though they're not supposed to let intoxicated people on the rides?
Sometimes, the way people here regard personal relations as more important than rules, and the viewing of rules as something arbitrary and not as something for everyone's good, just makes me want to punch somebody. |

It doesn't mention the 30 minute wait I heard about. Something along thel ines of not phoning the police right away, only contacting a supervisor (!?!) |

I could totally see this if the guy was older than the co-workers on duty, and they were women.

Famous last words of a Darwin Award winner...
"Hey, watch this!"
Actually, I feel for all the people in this situation...I've done some pretty stupid things while drunk...equally as stupid as this situation...guess I'm just very lucky to be alive...and I know it... appreciate it too.
It is strange what friends will let friends do when they're drunk...like some kind of mystical energy surrounds you...that and basically drunk people can be so abnoxious when they don't get to show off...so hey...let them....and then something like this happens...ouch.
My regards to his family...and to the workers that are going to catch hell for this tragedy. |
