How many times can this same lame video be posted. He's full of crap. I posted a critque of this very video a month or so ago. As a Mac user for nearly a decade I can firmly say he's full of crap.

Quote:

Now, as far as accuracy, here's my thoughts:

First off, when he refers to having to sneek up on a mac, or trick it, I've no idea. I've done graphic design on a mac since 1999, and can't for the life of me think of what he's talking about. I haven't done video editing but I've used Photoshop, Illustrator, Flash, Director, Quark, Word, Dreamweaver and Image Ready and had no major problems. I say save, it saves, I say copy/paste, it does that too. It does what I tell it to. With Automator, a newer feature in OSX, I can streamline entire tasks. One action will set off a whole cascade of other ones if I want it to, but I don't bother with it. In 7 years of using a Mac, I can't think of anything that his claims apply to.

Also, we don't call it a cloverleaf, we call it the command key. Or the Apple key since it's got the apple on it next to the cloverleaf image.

As for the system locking up, that was a problem with OS9, but I've been on OSX for almost a year and have yet to have the system freeze. Every so often Safari (Apple's browser) quits, normally when I'm trying to play Windows Media files, and a window pops up, asking me if I want to restart it, I click yes, and I'm back to work. I've never had to do a system restart because it locked up. So on that one, again I have no idea what he's referring to. The system is designed not to crash if one program goes down. It has partitioned memory, from what I understand, which means that no program interferes with the other in regards to RAM allocation and the like. But whatever it is, I've never had the whole system crash on me. So, no idea on that one either.

The Cd playing automatically: That's a system preference, all he has to do is turn it off. I believe Windows has the same feature. As far as dragging files to or from a cd, yeah, it does only create a shortcut, but it's fixed by holding the command key when you click and drag. Maybe they'll fix that in an update because it is sort of a useless function. And with dragging it to the trash can and it locking up, again, I've never had the system lock up using OSX, which he's using if he has a "Dock".

The Update Manager: Again, it's a system preference, he can set it to check once a month, once a day or never if he wants. It simply checks Apple for software updates. I've got mine to to check once a week. If he clicks on a file by accident, it only renames it if he types after he selects it, which is the same on a windows file name. But if he does that, all he has to do is hit command+Z (undo) and the original name pops back up. And you can't crash the system from the update manager (or at all, in my experience) because it only gives you a list of things it recommends you install. If you click on one, it only highlights it and gives you a discription of what the update is for. If he goes in and rummages around in his system files for the things that were updated to play with them and renames it "nothing" then again, it can be rectified by hitting command+Z.

As far as recovering data, I don't know on that one. I've never thrown something away that I needed.

Boxing the Dock: If you move your mouse to close to the bottom, about 2 millimeters from where the screen ends, atleast on the monitor I've got now, then yes, the dock springs up. Sometimes if I've got a window to low and I move to click on the bottom, the dock will pop up and I've got to bring the window up, but that's what the dock does. It goes away when it's not needed and comes up when you move down there. Simply move the window up a half-centimeter and it's not a problem.

I think I've covered everything. In my opinion he's exaggerating a lot of those things, or just lying to be funny. I love my mac and would never use a PC. I can't stand them. One of the best conversations I ever had about mac and pc's was talking to a PC salesman at a Best Buy. He confessed that Window's sucks. He tries to sell it all day but he would never use it at home. He preferred Linux, but agreed with me that Mac was a "pretty good" OS, in his words. But it's not for everybody.

I don't know which is funnier, the video or the fact that someone felt the need to come online and defend Macs.

fricken geeks. Though I bet there would be a lot more people who defended macs than PCs. The video is funny, not serious. The "I love Macs" poster really needs to focus their energy on much more important things. Why don't we just start up a Star Wars vs Star Trek poll? There are way too many things that we have to take seriously that we shouldn't take something this petty seriously. I bet AbbeFaria has a heart attack at 40.

It was a lot funnier years ago when I first saw it. Now it's... a bit like watching old footage of a Western comedian, back in the 1960s, cracking jokes about Japanese cars. A bit.
