I know I could be asking for trouble bringing this up as no doubt some Korean posters will go on about "how robotic and nationalistic" Japanese are, and Japanese will go on about how "annoying, whiney, and stupid" Koreans are. But here goes anyway.

The other day a student came up to me and said "Mr. Kim, you from Korea. Which is better, Korea or Japan?" I told him that I prefer Korea, but a lot of people would probably tell him Japan is better. He asked why, and I couldn't really come up with an answer.

Seriously, what does Japan have that Korea doesn't?

Nicer weather? Have you ever been to Sapparo? (or a dozen other cities in Hokkaido)

Better entertainment industry? Perhaps, but we have access to all the same stuff.

Better porn magazines? Granted. But what the heck do we need a strong porn industry for? I know some Japanese here will say "we have more erotic stuff happening than you". But, why? Sex is sex. You are the ones with schoolgirl uniforms, but we have schoolgirl uniforms too.

Everything else is pretty much even. I could easily make a list of 30 tings that make Korea/Japan better than Canada (and maybe 5 of why Canada is better) But when it comes to seriously comparing Japan to Korea, I'm at a loss.

(let's take it for granted that Koreans in Canadians are pitiful and not include them/us in the argument)

I took the original wording of Newbie's http://www.eslcafe.com/forums/korea/viewtopic.php?t=52733 here.. just changing the names of the country and other major landmarks. Try to copy the same mispellings like 'tings' and others from the original..

I recommend similar parodies with Aust/NZ.. Ireland/UK.. Spain/Portugal.. Thailand/Laos.. anywhere really.

I think it was a nice try at a humorus post, but the set-up was too elaborately explained for there to be a comedy pay-off... Not bad really - but you're dealing with a tough segment of a tough audience here...

I wrote an open mike piece about Canadians but I'm not happy with how it turned out. There was a alot of good natured teasing but the core-funny part was about how some Canadian girls talked to me at Geckos and then evaulated me on how thick and unCanadian my accent was. They made me say words that they think Americans say funny and I can't remember what they were except for "garden". I was unware that Canadians think Americans say "garden" oddly. Its like that "aboot/about" thing but reverse.

The funny part was supposed to be when I evaluted them and instead of probing for peculiar mannerisms, I had them repeat highly sexually charged commands and desires of lust and passion. At least its funny in my head.
