I'm seriously considering teaching in Seoul with perhaps a late April, early May start. I hava business degree, a CELTA and have spent the last 1.5 years teaching in Japan. This includes corporate teaching and high school teaching. The more I read about Korea, the more interested I become, and as such am heading to Seoul next weekedn for the first time to find out firsthand what it's like. However, my biggest concern about working here is the awful stories I've read by disgruntled teachers. I know what a basic newby teacher contract looks like. As I already have some experience and the cert, can I still expect to start at the bottom of the hagwan scrap heap? Companies I've tentavily researched include: YBM adult classes, YES Youngdo, Ebo Young Talking Club (which someone on here highly rated) BCM. So much talk about bad schools, what are some good schools? Ebo Young Talking Club doesn't seem too bad, but again I've only tentavily researched them. As they're a franchise, anyone recommend a better location?

I'd suggest shooting for a university job. Far fewer contact hours, better money, WAY more paid vacation, and a decent crowd to hang out with. They'll be hiring again in force from around June. Best thing you could do if you planned on staying in Korea (or moving elsewhere for that matter) would be to start an MA program on-line somewhere. Looks good if you've completed a couple of classes, and, once finished, you'd be well situated to move on to university positions in other countries, or better university positions here in Korea. Good luck!
