Okay, I'm probably the only one who cares about this, really why work on one's spanish while living in korea but, anyway...I found spanish language books in seoul! Yay! Way to go, Kyobo Gangnam. Okay, there's probably only about 20 of them, and they seem to be mostly translations, but they do exist. There's hope for me and Korean yet. |

There are also a bunch on a certain store's website (see sig). There is not a certain section for them, but if you hunt around they are there.
For instance:

Mostly classics though, right? Kyobo has a good collection of French classics, but I'd love it if they got some more contemporary novels... |

Not really. They had a couple of books by isabel allende, they had coehlo (sp?), they had marquez, what else...I can't remember all of them. But then they had men are from mars, women are from venus, not something I'd want to read in english, let alone any other language. They had lord of the rings, the da vinci code, a lot of translations of english books.
Though I think the much larger french section was mostly classics, though they did have some book on the world of narnia, though I guess the chronicles themselves are considered classics. |

I guess I'll have to go take another look at their French literature, then. I would love an imporved selection. |

Good for you. I actually did the same once learning languages other than the language spoken in-country. I used to find it useful to say "hard to ignore" compliments to Russian/Chinese/Spanish gals. Very handy indeed. |

Kyobo Gwanghwamoon also has a Spanish section! It's only one shelf, and a lot of the books are translated from English, but they do have Motorcycle Diaries in the original Spanish. |

Where is this elusive shelf? I've been there numerous times but never found it. I'll have to head over again, though I am so lazy these days, if it's not an easy cab ride away.... |

Can you recommend any good Spanish novels? I've never found anything that I liked a lot. Perphaps something similar to Jean-Paul Sartre, Albert Camus or Haruki Murakami...know any Spanish-speaking authors like that? |

I don't know if they'll have it at Kyobo, but I loved Ficciones by Jorge Luis Borges, which is a great collection of mind-bending short stories.
As for where the section is in the Gwanghwamoon Kyobo, that's hard to describe. It's against the back wall in the same room with all of the other foreign language titles, but the Spanish section is not labelled as such. Just ask one of the clerks there ("ξ å ־?/Spain-aw chack awdi issoyo?"). |
