hey guy why limit it to just one option? -- take it to the labour board AND quit
p.s. while you are back in your home country ask your doctor about bipolarism or audition for the comedy channel (or, again, do both!!) |

it's nice to see there are quite a few people here who are more gullible than me. |

There's no doubt in my mind that a general strike of all English teachers is in order to show solidarity for on of our downtrodden brethren. I have already started to do my part by turning up for work late, often dishevelled and usually smelling of alcohol and hooker spit. Furthermore, I no longer prepare my classes to show my support for Ya-Ta Boy. (Actually, my support has been back-dated by some considerable time, I am that concerned for a fellow teacher's rights.)

But, but, but .. I know a guy who really did argue, at length, with his supervisor that it was the school district's responsibility to change his light bulbs. Apparently it required a small stepladder or some such. Much acrimony & his request for contract renewal was subsequently declined. |

Actually, I went over to another teacher's house with the wonjangnim to change a lightbulb, because the teacher made a similar request. The hogwan paid for the bulbs and changed them.
Go for it. We should all demand lightbulb changing in our contracts. |

Yes..come on people...how can you take this post as if it was a real situation....those of you that advocate quitting over this are either joking themselves or just in dire need of help and perhaps meds... |

The question now is who believed who and, therefore, who is the most gullible. |

I'm fed up to here with the incompetence of my hagwon boss. I arrived 7 weeks ago, looked over the apartment and made a list of changes that needed to be made. I handed in the list and a few things have been taken care of.
How long am I obligated to wait for him to change the bulb in my bathroom? I want to look professional when I go to work and I can't do that properly with a dim bulb. The hogwan boss is the owner of the apartment, and this is a matter of principle. I am not a janitor. I don't know how he expects me to live this way. It isn't civilized. It isn't what I was promised in my contract.
Do you think I could take this to the Labour Board, or should I just quit? |

First of all, I want to thank those of you who offered their support. It was appreciated. I think it helped me to get the issue resolved. After work on Friday I went to the office and told the boss I would not be teaching on Monday if the problem was not corrected immediately. I think my boss was embarrassed because I said this in front of his brother-in-law and his friend who were in the office at the time. After some talking in Korean, they put down their soju glasses and all three came home with me.
One of them unscrewed the cover, one held the screws and the other washed the dead bugs and cobwebs off the cover. Then they put it back on. Problem solved.
To those who were unsupportive, and you know who you are, fooey on you. That's all. Just fooey on you. |
