I just got some DVD's from a friend, but on my computer they dont play. It says they are for region one. My computer is set for region 3 and I dont want to change the region since I can only do it one more time then it stays permanently in that region setting. Has anyone experienced this and is there a way to get around it on a computer? Are DVD players the same or can they play all regions? I am thinking of buying a seperate DVD player for that reason. Thanks |

I had the same problem. I've got about 150 DVDs here in Korea, plus I brought back my collection of 100+ DVDs from America last time I visited. I thought about downloading a hack to make my DVD+-RW drive region-free, but then thought..."hmm, if this messes up, I've got to buy a new drive and mess around with getting it all set up again."
I ended up just buying an external drive that I set to Region 1 that I can plug into any computer here in Korea to watch my US movies, and I left the interal DVD drive set to Region 3. Problem solved.

That's an interesting solution.
Does videolan still hack past all that region bother?

I'm trying to buy a lot of good Korean movies on DVD so when I move home I can watch Korean movies and cry tears missing Korea. But of course the DVD players are region one back at home. Trying to squirt it thru videolan to watch on TV is a pain but works in a pinch on your little laptop. Yeah so maybe an external DVD drive you set to region 3. |
