Might want to be more liberal with your chili paste usage.

Chili Heat Kills Prostate Cancer Cells

Quote:
Initial experiments in cancer cells and mice show that capsaicin causes prostate cancer cells to undergo a kind of suicide. Researchers speculate that, in the future, pills containing capsaicin might be used as therapy to prevent prostate cancer's return.

According to their report, capsaicin caused almost 80 percent of prostate cancer cells in the mice to die. In addition, prostate cancer tumors treated with capsaicin were about one-fifth the size of tumors in untreated mice.

Quote:
Capsaicin probably has several effects, Koeffler said. Most noticeable is its effect in blocking NF-kappa Beta, a molecular mechanism that promotes cancer cell growth, he noted.

In addition, capsaicin also was effective against leukemia, and might be effective in slowing or preventing the growth of other cancers as well, he added.

Well hmmm.. I ate a boatload of chili peppers while in Korea and still ended up getting cancer (albeit not prostate). Then again, had I not ate all those peppers, perhaps the cancer would have had a bigger impact on moi than it did.

Regardless, I'm sure Koreans will hype this up and say it is further proof that Korean food is ultra healthy.

There's this dumb show on TV here called ̽Ͽ that, in its current incarnation, has an entire 15 minute segment devoted to the superior qualities of some food. Apparently, you can eat just about anything that isn't land meat or bread and fight something.

I was going to say something really crass about peppers and cancer, but I find myself unable to make light of BB's predictament.

I do hope you make remission and stay healthy, all the best.

I thought that korea's love of spicy food caused the high rate of stomach cancer in korea.

No, think that's due to the fermented veggies in kimchi, not the chilis.

I feel fine. Like I said, it's been nearly 10 months since my last chemo. And as long as I continue feeling this way for 14 months, I can then breath a big sigh of relief. Pretty confident that I'll be ok.
