just curious, it reminds me of the Wizard of Oz, those little guards that guard the Evil Witch of the East (?)

have a listen

http://www.jerusalemites.org/anthem.htm

hear are the beautiful lyrics

My country , my country
My country , the land of my grand fathers
My country , my country
My country , my nation , the nation of eternity
With my determine , my fire and the volcano of my revenge
The longing of my blood to my land and home
I have climbed the mountains and fought the wars
I have conquered the impossible , and crossed the boarders
My country , my country , the nation of eternity
With the resolve of the winds and the fire of the guns

And the determination of my nation in the land of struggle
Palestine is my home , Palestine is my fire , Palestine is my revenge
and the land of eternal
My country , my country , the nation of eternity
I swear under the shade of the flag
To my land and nation , and the fire of pain
I will live as a guerrilla , I will go on as guerrilla ,
I will expire as guerrilla until I will be back

My country , my country , the nation of eternity

I mean there are 22 countries in which these folks share the same religion, language and culture? Have they been welcomed as brothers in them? NOPE

Why are the fake palestinians on the news more than kurds, basques, tibetans, chechens etc????

they aren't even a people!

Please enlighten me.

Nothing to enlighten you on here.

This kind of confrontationalist nationalism is ugly and destructive, but unfortunately, we're stuck with it in places like Palestine -- and all over Latin America, as well.

So I guess "The Committee for the Adoption of A Whiter Shade of Pale as the Official Anthem of the Future State of Palestine" hasn't been able to build up much grassroots support?

You mean the anti-imperialist, anti-american rhetoric, right?
I'm curious- have you read Eduardo Galeano?

Not so much the antiAmericanism as much as the ugly nationalism.

If we were in Chile, for example, I'd take you to a football game to hear "vamos chilenos!", or invite you into a high school class and ask the students to tell you about the Bolivians and Peruvians, to see a negative expression of it.

I know which Galeano book you're referring to. I haven't read it. I have read others that say the same thing, esp. PanAmericanism from Monroe to the Present: A View from the Other Side.

Also, see Arevalo's Shark and the Sardines, where the former president lecuters Americans and says that Latin Americans don't want to be our friends anymore.

For an even more bitter denunciation, see Arevalo's former minister's account of the PBSUCCESS operation: Operacion Guatemala $$OK$$.

That Latin Americans bitterly resent the U.S. and also blame us for everything that is wrong under the sun is nothing new.

The nationalism I refer to there is the same nationalism that Bolivar denounced in his famous Jamaican letter: they'll never work together on anything because they'll never stop hating and despising each other -- and while they may blame us for each and every problem that plagues their countries, they still hate each other way more than they'll ever hate us.

Also, think of how many in Korea feel towards Japan.

There is something of this in the Israel-Palestine conflict. That's why I brought up the analogies.

Good points. I had jumped to the wrong conclusion about what you were referring to (anti-American Nationalism), and you are right: Latin America is the home of "The Soccer War" and probably the bitterest and longest civil war in the hemisphere.

But of course it's also the region that gave us the terms "Banana Republic" and "Gunboat Diplomacy", but that's a subject for another thread...

Anyway, is that the official national anthem or or a candidate? Can't say I'd be surprised to hear that it is the official one- they did just democratically vote for Hamas, didn't they?

All these 22 countries share the same nationality do they?

Other than that, I agree the anthem is fanatical nationalist trash.

That would be stupid beyond belief. It would make China look bad and angry. I wouldn't do that yet if I was a terrorist. Plus, I bet China will have a lot of protection in place.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country should leave us no more!
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight and the gloom of the grave

Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps pollution? That just warms the old heart, eh?
