Creationists should hold this up as evidence that evolution is wrong; This guy should have gotten his Darwin Award a long long time ago. |

I wonder how the officer feels.. Bet he would get ribbed big time after getting punched in the face by an eighty-one year old! . |

I could see my 87 year old, crippled from a stroke, father trying that crap. He can be an ornery old coot when he wants to be.
I guess, after a certain age there isn't much to lose, and there is a lot to be p.o.'d about. |

I don't think he should be cut any slack because of his age
(at least not without a doctor certifying that he has dementia or Parkinson's disease, in which case- FOR THE LOVE OF GOD TAKE AWAY THAT MAN'S DRIVER'S LICENCE!)
and here's why:
He was stopped for not wearing his seatbelt.
A mandatory seatbelt law in Ontario has been in effect for at least 25 years (probably closer to 30-35, I believe it was one of the first places in North america to do so).
That would mean he has been aware of this law since he was in his fifties. If he has actually been breaking this law-
instituted and proven to reduce injuries and fatalities-
for the last 35 years then I refer you to my Darwin Award comment. |

I absolutely agree. My father finally has to take a driving test this year, at 87. Thank God. He should not be driving. And he has the same, "goddam seatbelts" attitude. These guys were the generation that had seat belt laws "imposed" on them. They are like the idiots who ride around on motorcycles without helmets (the good governor of California?). |

At 81, what's the old boy got to lose? Maybe he's hoping to live fast, die old and leave a beautiful corpse. Driving without a seatbelt is like teaching private English classes. It's against the law, but where's the crime? It's nanny-state PCism gone wild. |

Very Darwinistic of you.
Let's do away with all safety regulations and let the careless and stupid take their chances.
[I think much of Korea is already on board with that plan]
But then we should also allow cops to just blow away people who try to punch them when they're in the middle of performing their duties, don't you think?
Especially old people, cause their tickets are just about ready for punching anyway.
If you listen closely, you can hear Jonathan Swift rolling over in his grave... |

Well, if the idiot was then in an accident and didn't die, but was horribly hurt he would need a lot of money to pay for treatment. In America, a lot of accidents like this will cause a loss for the insurance companies and premiums will go up. In Canada, it means one more idiot making me wait longer for care and further sucking funds away from where needed. In the end, this idiot's stupidity will cost all of us too. That is why I feel it should be against the law and punished. (and why cigarettes should be horribly taxed, as they are). |

Yes, and overweight people might have a heart attack, so they should go on mandatory diets enforced by the police. Butter should be an illegal substance only available for orgies and not consumption because it leads to strokes. And I don't care to pay the taxes to educate your kids so I think you should have a mandatory vasectomy with a pair of dull and rusty scissors. |
