Hi once more,

(I'm purging some travel questions that were in my head, hence a recent increase in posts)

The week of Christmas, m'honey and I would like to visit Singapore with the one week of vacation we have - is it possible to also visit Malaysia and Indonesia for a day or so, or is this impossible?

If you have any cheap travel ideas for those areas (we're not particularly interested in shopping, and we like beer but don't care about clubbing): anything cultural or relaxing to see, please share!

From Singapore, you can catch a bus up to Kuala Lumpur, which is the capital of Malaysia and a very cool city. The bus ride takes around 6 hours each way.

There are a couple of Indonesian islands near Singapore that are a short ferry ride away and it's possible to day-trip on either of them. I went to Bintan, and it was a dump. A waste of time in my opinion. If you want to do Indonesia right, you will have to go to the more interesting islands, like Java, Sulawesi, or Bali. With just a week, it would be expensive to fly someplace like that just for a day or two, but if money isn't an issue, you could do it.

Air Asia has very cheap flights between these locations if you're impatient. An alternative is to fly to Georgetown, Malaysia instead and then make a short trip to Singapore. I found Georgetown a lot more fun than Singapore, and it's much less expensive. I don't know what I'd do for a week in Singapore.
