Wedding anniversary coming up, hubby says let's go somewhere...

I thought may be Fuji mountain.. or Taiwan.

What would you choose?

Also.. has anyone been to the Fuji mountain? Any info on the place?

What about Taiwan?

It'll be a quick trip, cos we will go to Europe at the end of June, so it has to be somewhere close...

TIA for your opinion!

I've climbed it. Lots of people, but it's kind of interesting. You can stay at one of the places on the mountain for the night, wake up before sunrise and go up to the top to see the sun come up and it's super cold in the summer. Full of ash though, so on the way down your knees hurt because you find yourself hopping from rock to rock to avoid slipping into the ash. Watching the clouds from the top, and the shooting stars at night is great. And everybody there says hi to you when you pass by. Not sure if you like that, but I did.

Oh, and you start from about 1000 m up, because it's a really wide mountain and the base is the town itself, so you would spend the whole day just trying to get to where it starts to get steep. Instead you take a bus to the first climbing area, which is called base 5 or something. Lots of people commit suicide in the forest nearby because they usually never get found. People don't like the forest there.

there are five big lakes around Fuji and the place has lots of places to stay some expensive some astronomically expensive. We spent Christmas at Yamanakako and it was absolutely beautiful to see Fuji in the early morning. If we'd had a car it would have been great to get around. Public transport is not great outside the bigger cities.

So, yes, Fuji is worthwhile but you really would need a car and bigger budget to enjoy a stay of any duration there.

No reason to go to Fuji unless you plan to climb the mountain. The area around it is pretty like a small Korean provincial park, but over commercialized to the nth degree. The weather is such that views are usually obscured by clouds, so if you go only for views you will be disappointed.
That being said, travelling to Fuji for climbing is an excellent short trip from Korea.
Taiwan is good choice for a short trip. G/f and I went last month. Visited Kenting at the southern tip of the island. It had beaches, surfing, hiking, good Western restaurants, and nightlife. Was surprised that there was such a thriving year-round beach community so close to Korea.

The Hakone Area is just to the south of Mt. Fuiji. It offers great views of the mountain from different angles. The forested area has a type of circuit course, where you can take a mountain train, cablecar, gondola ropeway, and a great paddleboat on Lake Ashi, all with great views.
I stayed at the Fujiya Hotel, which was a real treat.

If you are going to Japan just to see Mt. Fuji, give yourself a couple days' chance. A cloudy day could be a big disapointment for you.
