Air Qatar had been my airline of choice for a while, but now they are renovating the Dhoa airport, the stopover there is an absolute bloody nightmare....there are no seats in the departure lounges -- and this isn't a result of the renovations, this is the norm, the renovations just make it worse -- actually to be more accurate, the seats in the waiting lounges of the departure area are gated off and you can only sit down at your gate once they have announced boarding for your flight and have a ticket taker there. At that point in time there is no need to sit down, because you are about to walk through the tunnel to board the plane. And, at all times prior to this, the chairs are gated off, and totally empty, starting tauntingly at the weary travellers just beyong their reach.
So, when it's a busy time at the airport, there are NO CHAIRS to sit in, save for about 5 or 6 in front of each boarding area. When there have been flight delays throughout the day, there are hundreds upon hundreds of people all standing in one long hallway attempting to get to one of 5 chairs or an inch of floor space to squat on, grumpy because their flight is delayed in an airport that doesn't make delay announcements and relies on you to periodically battle the crowd to find the sign board. Do
Worse - you're on a flight to Korea so all of the other people waiting for your flight are ajummas with elbows of steel, full right to lie down across the only 5 available chairs, shouting to their friends as loud as possible, spreading newspapers across every inch of floor space for a make-shift picnic, and pointing disgustedly at the local population.
Add to this that the duty free isn't in "shops" but is "market style" scattered throughout this mess near the gates, and it's the most horrid place to have a delay of 5 hours in the middle of the night.
But aside from the stop in Doha - Qatar is a top airline! |
