Can someone recommend a good yeogwan or motel near HongDae or Insadong? I know it's easy to find one, but I don't want to have to waste the time looking for a good one. Around the 40-50k won range would be good.

Thanks

i've stayed in dozens of yogwans in seoul, but i can never remember the name of them or where exactly they are located. i don't know korean very well, yogwan signs are never in english, and korean street names aren't marked very clearly, if at all. there are so many ... any major area in seoul is littered with yogwans. you can easily point them out once you figure out what yogwans look like (yogwan or motel in koreanized letters out front), plastic flaps over the parking area to protect people's anonymity and often the symbol of a cup with steam coming out of it (like the saunas). sorry not to be much help. this question comes up so often, but where you will sleep in seoul really shouldn't be a cause of concern and , if i were you, i would pay a lot less than 50,000 won unless you're trying to impress someone.

The only hotel I've found in Hongdae is the Seokyo Hotel and thats an expensive hotel (US$200/nite) if you go one stop beyond Hongdae, Hapjeong there are several. There might be some at Sinchon, one stop before Hongdae.

In Insadong there are tons in the area. Most are north of Jongno Street Just don't go to the YMCA, overpriced to say the least

let's not confuse hotel with "yeogwan."
