Mono is a post-rock band from Japan, all instrumental. Their music is in the same vein as bands like Godspeed You Black Emperor, Do Make Say Think, Bell Orchestre, etc. They are one of the bigger bands of their genre, making a lot of noise in Europe and North America for some time now. Their live show has a reputation for being pretty crazy. Anyhoo they are coming to Seoul! April 7 & 8th. Venue isn't announced yet. There you have it!

Yeah, I am getting really pumped, and truly hoping that these gigs do not fall through!

Their new album is called ARE YOU THERE and it comes out in April 2006. Here is a little write-up:

"Captured to tape by Steve Albini at his Electrical Audio studios in Chicago, IL, You Are There extends the cinematic drama of 2003's Walking Cloud and Deep Red Sky, Flag Fluttered and the Sun Shined (also recorded by Albini), while surpassing the sinister heaviness of 2002's lauded One Step More and You Die. MONO disproves the myth that an increased focus on intricate song structures and string arrangements comes at the expense of youthful energy and inspired aggression. With You Are There, MONO's representation of tragedy comes with an inherent joy, delivered with the hope that in all dark there is equal parts light. They're not heavy like Black Sabbath - they're heavy like Beethoven."

The dates are April 7 & 8th.

I don't know anything else yet though.

I got that info from their most recent email list email, which was sent about a week ago. More info to come ASAP!

I checked out their website. It allows you to hear a 6 minute song (in the sound section). Hey! Pretty good! Still isn't any word yet on the concert, is there? I wonder where you'd get info on this? There's nothing for Korea on the Mono site in the tour dates section.

Korea is a funny place. I thnk if you want to know what's going on in live music, you have to walk around Seoul and look at the posters posted everywhere. That's how I first found out about the Oasis show. By the time the media picks up on a lot of these gigs, they're sold out. Kinda sucks if you don't live in Seoul.

So, the shows are at a venue called ROLLING HALL. Is anyone familiar with this venue? I think its in Hongdae. Tickets are 25,000 in advance (www.interpark.com) or 30,000 at the door, I think..

Info is available in Korean at: http://www.pastelmusic.com/

(Any translation would be much appreciated!)

Is this the same Mono that had a track on the Great Expectations OST back in 1998? That was a good song.

Ok so apparently Friday night Mono is only playing for a little bit, as part of a Pastel Music Showcase. It is NOT a Mono show. Its 12,000 to get in. Saturday night is the full-out Mono show. (Both events are taking place at Rolling Hall).
