Could probably title this post "logic problems," but anyway I found this tripe over on Lost Nomad.

But, each year in the U.S. hundreds are either turned out, literally dumped, or given up by their owners, inviting certain death in ``kill'' shelters where animals are quickly euthanized if new homes cannot be found.
For a dog the South Korean government recognizes worthy of being legislatively protected, that it faces lethal uncertainty in the U.S. is difficult to accept.
So great is the problem, chindo-enthusiasts there have formed rescue groups: Finding homes for the dogs and educating current and potential owners, shelter workers, veterinarians, animal-control officers, and the general public about the chindo and its seemingly unique character and traits, good and bad.
When chindos first arrived in the U.S. is unclear but since their arrival, initially centered around ``Koreatown'' in Los Angeles, California, Ann Kim, a chindo owner since 1993, and an `unofficial' authority on the dogs, suggests that as word of their presence spread throughout the migrant Korean communities, their fate was set on an unintended path of enforced self-destruction.
``Unfortunately, there was less emphasis on carefully and thoughtfully protecting and preserving this breed and more emphasis on making money and satisfying the demands of envious friends and relatives,'' she said in an e-mail interview with the Korea Times. She added that: ``As a result, there was rampant, irresponsible breeding and considerable degeneration of the chindo.''
Against this backdrop, U.S. chindo enthusiasts ``realized the need to encourage and promote the breeding of chindos with appearances and temperaments lining up to quality dogs,'' Kim said.

funny...i stumbled upong that groups website a few weeks ago looking for a playfriend for my jindo x.
it was a nice website.
great (but at times very headstrong/difficult) dogs too!
back in the 70s and 80s, i heard that jindos had good reputations for pit fighting dogs in LA....
anyone heard that? |

I raised two Jindo dogs and found them quite energetic and loyal.
Sure, they ain't as obedient as a german shepherd, but for us cat lovers, Jindos are manageable.
They are better suited to life in the country than in cities. |

Interesting article. I was especially amused (or is it bemused?) by the picture of two lovely Jindo-gae "enjoying a life of freedom" along the beach in Jeollanam-do. That's quite the contrast from the number of Jindo-gae I've seen tied by a super-short chain to a post or maybe a dingy doghouse with little or no shade, food or water, and so filthy that you can't even tell the original color.
I tend to find myself an apologist for Korea more and more the longer I live here, but I will NEVER condone the way animals are treated here. Where does the Korean media get off talking about animals being treated inhumanely in another bloody country? CHECK THE BEAM IN YOUR OWN FREAKIN' EYE PEOPLE!!
What pisses me off even more is that I can't do any more about it. I've given my home to two rescued animals and assisted in the rescue of two others. There's only so much I can do. And that makes me so angry I could cry (and do). |

I raise a jindo myself, and have read or heard most of the stories that circulate about the jindo's.
the training methods have and will probably be appauling when dealing with jindo's.
i heard stories that most jindo's are trained by physical abuse. if a jindo jumped up towards the owner; it would be kicked or beat down. jindo's arent considered house pets, more like liverstock or a commodity.
why are there so many in animal shelters?
little is known about the jindo outside of korea. alot of jindos were adopted, but most adoptees were fighting dogs that could no longer make money. The jindo is about as independant and free thinking as a dog can get. difficult for some people to get used to. They are very intelligent and not the cuddly watch tv next to you kinda a dog. jindo's are very loyal, and adjustment to a new owner would probably be longer than usual.
Jindo's are well known in the dog fighting circles. The Dosa as a heavyweight and jindo as a middleweight. 1 guy told me that pit-bull/jindo mix has been the recent trend for making the ultimate fighting dog. jindo's intelligence/aggressiveness with the pitbulls strength/pain threshold.
Jindo's arent for everyone. they look cute as pups, but are a handful to deal with. Think long and hard about getting a jindo. That being said, i wouldnt trade my jindo for any other breed. |

Me neither. And, for the record, my Oso is sitting next to me watching TV. |

I'll have to look for it next time I'm there. I have some that I buy from my vet, but they're pretty expensive. Most of the time I give him a big rawhide bone from HomePlus that'll keep him busy for awhile in the evening and keeps him from finding other stuff to chew on. |
