Just came across a teacer job ad from LONGBRIDGE PACIFIC, and I'm wondering it this falls into the category - if it sounds too good a deal... - Good salary, free furnished apartment, free return flight, and so on, with no need for any teaching/ESL qualifications.

I did try a search first, but couldn't come up with much.

Thanks.

I first saw their advertisement at my university, and I thought it was a school as well, but they are a recruitment agency. I got my current job through them. I can post about my job and how my recruiter lied to me about a few things (some pretty major), but that would just be my story, and I'm sure that there must be people out there who have had really good experiences with them, I'm just not one of them. I learned my lesson not to go through a recruiter again. I guess if you want to work with them (as I suppose can be said with many other agencies out there) just be careful.

The name of that firm rings a bell. I dealt with them before I came here and they sent job offers of hagwons that popped up on the infamous Blacklist. Probably best to avoid...

I was checking out blacklists when they offered me my current school. I didn't find my school, or my director on the list. Good sign... or so I thought. For my life I cannot imagine why my school isn't listed. Applying for the job, I did ask my recruiter about the school/director, and he had told me that he personally had done dealings with my director for a few years. Everyone was so happy, shiny happy people, blah blah blah. I found out later that this was a lie. Now I'm with a director who just yesterday asked if he could use my credit card for an online registration for a webpage he is making. (I said that I didn't have one, then he asked if I would call my parents and ask that he uses theirs - wow) But, like I said, I've learned my lesson by going through them. I wish I had the knowledge that I have now and I wish I had taken real advantage of this site when I had the chance. Blackbear, those are excellent questions. If the company can't/won't answer them, then stay away, stay far far away. As I said before, there could very well be people who got awesome positions from this company, and if so, I truly envy these people. The company does have a website (swanky - it's all updated now and changed)-

All I can say for myself is that my countdowns are on.

DO NOT use Longbridge Pacific. They are NOT a reputable or professional agency.

I don't think you understand exactly what a recruiter does OP.

A recruiter will take on about 50-100 jobs and maybe 20-30 teachers over a month. They will then try to pair the teachers to the jobs ... in terms of starting date, location, wages etc ...

A recruiter is not your parish priest. He can't vouch for the good 'moral fibre' of your boss. If you want to find out what type of person your boss is - then why not ask the teachers that work at the school before you ?
Quote:

Are you registered with the Korean Labor Board? What is your license number?

... this makes absolutely no difference to you whatsoever. As far as complaints go - it's your word against his. You'll never make anything stick, in a labor board complaint - so the registrtion number is just window dressing.
Quote:

Have you personally visited the Employer and ascertained the working conditions?

... why ? which subjective terms would you think would be most appropriate ... fine, good, clean, ? If you want to see the school ask the boss to send you a picture...
Quote:

Do you have authority to negotiate contractual changes, or merely convey them to the Employer?

... no, of course they don't ... that's why they are the recruiter and your boss is the one who'll sign the contract
Quote:

Most importantly, ask if the recruiter/company is actually part of an education Franchise, and are you being recruited for a school within their own franchise system, thus their independent objectivity may be biased.

... there is no independent objectivity ... there's a school that fits your description ... would you like to work at it ?

... 'bad' recruiters are the ones that will straight up lie to you about various facts about your school. Believe it or not, many schools want to share as little detail as possible about their school (even with a recruiter), so many recruiters will try and fill in the blanks themselves with whatever it is they think you want to hear.

An 'honest' recruiter will pass you straight on to the school, so you can ask yourself directly. A good teacher will bypass the middleman and ask the hard questions to the school - not to the recruiters. Afterall, a hogwon boss can tell the recruiter one thing and then tell you another - and lay the blame on the recruiters door when things go wrong.

I think you'll find that teachers tend to get the recruiters they deserve...
