Is this board dying a slow death? Be it due to Ph-whatever error, over-moderation (?), too many know-it-alls jumping on anyone who makes a post, or teachers losing interest in coming to Korea; pick your poision.

Is this board dying?

I have never seen it so boring.

Judging from the past few years, it'll be slower as the weather gets warmer and then in about august there'll be a whole bunch of freshly graduated newbies here.

I'm weaning myself of this site for this very reason. It's really tiring to get slammed every time you write something. There are friendlier sites elsewhere.

The overmoderation and inability to curse (some things just can't be expressed without a good 'ol FU(K) tend to dampen some personalities on here that I think would liven the place up and generate more traffic if left to their own devices.

I've considered sponsoring my own board here in Korea, but geared more towards nightlife, the arts, food, sports...basically everything except teaching. It's rather inexpensive.

However, I am concerned a little bit about the liabilities involved in having a no-holds-barred forum based on life in Korea. I'm the furthest thing from a Nazi-mod, but perhaps some of the policing is to prevent any legal backlash?

Imagine how the boys over at AF.com would react to uncensored rants about their Utopian country... Rolling Eyes

Not at all.

Number of threads with new posts less than 24 hours ago:

FAQ - 1
Job - 24
General - 37
Off - 20
Travel - 4
Current Events - 21
Technology - 10
Buy & Sell - 7

total - 124

That's 124 threads posted to here at the Korean boards of Dave's in a matter of the last several hours. That's amazing. It's much higher than the days back when bored bad boys ruled the off-topic forum with inane, irrelevant banter while the other forums trickled with few posts. Now the general and job forums are more active, more relevant... but less interesting to those who want Howard Stern instead of Larry King.

The variety of posters is greater than ever, no longer just a clique. The boards are much more newbie friendly these days, more respectful of our roles as teachers and much more informative. Like night and day.

Less wild though.

There are plenty of other places to go to blow off steam and kick back, like a bar or expatinkorea.

I agree with Van Islander - I think the board is alive and well - and becoming more user-friendly and more informational.

Perhaps less of a social center for cliques - but that's okay with me.

I've been in country two years, but only recently started posting, so it's tough for me to gauge the traffic. It's definitely the nicest board I've ever posted on. Wink

Most of the boards I used back home were geared towards nightlife, and people actually knew each other and met socially on a regular basis...that was cause for some priceless drama over the years.

Do tell!

Just about any and every soap opera scandal you can imagine. STDs, drug abuse, overdoses, stings and jail sentences, drinking and driving arrests, drinking and driving fatalities, blatant racism, hate crimes, club dancers gone strippers gone porn stars, steroids, infidelity, cheating, backstabbing, robbery, arson, rape, assault, etc.

Of course, this was over the course of a few years, but a lot of it happened to people I knew...not necessarily my friends, but what I call "club nods"...people you acknowledge and maybe do a shot with when you see them out.

Most of the time it was fairly civil and humorous, but quite frequently stuff would blow up and cause threads to go over 100-150 pages of just the most brutal shit talking you can imagine. Sometimes that shit talking would spill over into real life.

So again, this is definitely the nicest board I've posted on. The arguments are usually thought-out, decently articulated, and absent of physical threat. Kinda boring though... Wink

Cut out about 5 obsessive posters like Mindmetoo, and you've got 70% of those threads covered.

I think clg has it about right. There is always a slowdown in activity as the weather gets better. It's cyclical.

This board serves a valuable function. It may evolve but most likely it will be around as long as Dave's site serves the ESL community, employers as well as employees.

Not true.

Must I list all the posters who have been latest to post on each of the 124 threads today?
