I was never in the military but did have PX access, so I miss that. Mons Belgium (SHAPE HQ) had a real kick-ass PX. Never saw any Korea though.
But that's not why I'm posting here. I'm posting here because of a student I had in an adult conversation class, Mr. Kim (naturally).
It was one of those intermediate classes where getting people to talk was the main goal, it was what they were paying money for, yet it was like pulling teeth some days.
So the conversation topic for the moment was- inane, bland, completely non-controversial- "where do you like to go for walks?"
We go around in a circle, I start, ask the person on my left, whoanswers and asks the person on her left, and so on.
While this is going on I notice Mr. Kim has become visibly agitated, like he has sat on a tack and it's all he can do to contain himself from jumping up and swearing or something.
So thoughts are racing through my head- wtf is up?
Could the topic be too difficult for him?
Hard to believe, this is just a warm up, everyone in the class is easily capable of feilding it, so wtf?
And how will I handle this if, when the question comes round the circle to him, he breaks the flow?
So the moment arrives and he is asked the question.
"No place" he sullenly says.
So I chime in to smooth the way to the next person and maybe elicit more of a response,
"You don't like going for walks, Mr. Kim?"
He replies with a forceful "No!"
So I have to ask "why not?"
"When I was in the army, I walked everywhere! All the time! In every weather! I'm not in the army now so I don't have to walk! So I don't! No more!"
Talk about a great answer! |

That's how I felt about a lot of things when I got out. Why was it that the helicopter was always perfectly capable of landing exactly where we needed to be, yet we were always let out 6 miles from final destination? Bastards. |

I never joined the army because at ease was never that easy to me. Seemed rather uptight still. I don't relax by parting my legs slightly and putting my hands behind my back. That does not equal ease. At ease was not being in the military. I am at ease, bro, because I am not in the military.

You can try, but you won't find him. You know what Markinson did for the first 17 of his 21 years in the corps? Counter Intelligence. Markinson's gone. There is no Markinson. |

If anyone replys, they have no experience with counter-intelligence. If you're interested in a job in intel, check out my website. |
