| Did you buy it as a result of reading about it here or "other" message boards? I swear that I personally made the launch of the v43 by iStation a success by my constant reviews of that particular PMP! Anyways, I love the v43, but I am also keeping my eye on the Creative Zen Vision lines which are showing A LOT of promise. |
Where did you review it? It seems to have a bit of a cult following already. I'm registered on http://www.v43mania.com/ . Seems iStation is a bit slow to export as Americans etc can't seem to get hold of them easily.
What's the Creative Zen Vision line got going for it?
I was dissapointed that the V43 can't work as a VCR when connected to a TV or VCR. No video-in conversion. The Cowon A2 can however. |
The Cowon A2 and Creative Zen Vision are basically the same PMPs. Though, the Zen Vision has more intuitive controls and seems to have a better audio player. The only thing is has against it is that it doesn't have a removeable external battery like the v43 does. As far as recording goes, the only player that does that is the Archos AV700. It's an awesome player, but also very expensive and doesn't have GPS, a 7" screen or as good codec support as the v43. Since the v43 doesn't have that capability, you could always get a PCi TV capture for your computer and hook your cable to your computer. TV cards usually come with capturing software which means that they will record/encode anything streamed into them and make files that can be used on your pmp. TV cards usually support VCR capturing and FM signals as well. Hauppauge and Aver are two of the top companies for TV capture cards. They can cost you anywhere from 20,000 won to 200,000 won depending on what you want.
Give my apologies to your wife for the ideas I am putting in your head on how to spend your hard earned cash.
If you ever need support, tips, or anything extra out of your v43, visit http://www.istationhq.com/ where they have forums. They even have some posts up that tell you how to install a Linux OS on them... pretty cool. You can also get firmware on http://digital-cube.co.kr/eng/bbs/ and if your wife signs up for the Korean side of that site, you can get the latest and best firmware that might not even be released to consumers abroad.
BTW, if you want to make a killing, purchase a whole bunch of v43s and sell them on Ebay.com. There are a few sellers who have done just that and they are getting rich off of it. |
