I played guitar for several years back in highschool and have missed it something fierce.

I'm planning a trip to Nagwon (sp?) in the next month or so but I'd really like to know what to look out for.

The only electric I bought was when I was 14 and then I just chose one I thought looked cool. Now, though, I'd like to be a bit smarter about my purchase. I've read about various neck construction, bolt-on vs set etc... is there anything else I should know?

I was thinking of picking up a cort. Perhaps something from the X Series... any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. I played quite a bit before and I know I'm serious about it, so I don't mind paying up to about 400-500,000 for one.

Thanks

hi patrick

One bit of advice if you are going to nagwonsanga is take a korean speaker with you if you can't speak it yourself. I got 50,000W knocked off the price and lots of extras with a 400,000 acoustic so it was well worth it. The prices are not as cheap as the U.S but on a par with the U.K but there is a pretty good selection. You should pick up a pretty decent guitar for that 500. I cannot advise on type as I don't know what style of music you like to play but good luck.

happy hunting

james

I would also recommend Mr-Potato guitars. There is a shop in Songtan..thats about 1 1/2 hours by subway from seoul. I paid $370 for a very nice electric. Neck has beautiful sculpture. Let me see if I can post a pic....http://edwin4oliva.myphotoalbum.com/view_album.php?set_albumName=album15

cort is a solid mid-level choice, and should be fair price-wise since it is made in korea. look online for different models (and prices) then go to nagwan armed w knowledge and test drive....

Thanks very much both of you.

I appreciate the advice.

I'll probably end up looking at cort and ibanez. Doing my research now Wink

Cheers

I have a nicely restored Vester Mandolin for sale~ 250,000 won obo. It comes with a strong n sturdy hard-shelled case. I'm selling it because I have my other really good one and don't need two. Sounds fine! Sunburst finish.

I'm in Hong Dae.

Thanks.

I looked at a Swing Exciter (?) for 450 in Nagwon the other day. It seemed to be a much better guitar than a Cort. A coil tap switch so it could sound like an SG or a Strat, a basswood body... the Cort I looked at seemed to be really poorly grounded (loud buzzing when you're not touching the strings is always a giveaway).

Please post something about what you end up buying because I'm in the same boat as you.

The buzzing sucks. A simple proceedure on the pick-up will help take the buzzing away. Though simple, it's not so easy to do. In addition, someone at a shop may charge between $25- 50 to do it.

BTW, I have Factory second Epiphones that may be of interest to you. The mandolin ad was an accident. I meant to put it seperately.

Again, no worries about the mandolin Wink Truth be told, I wouldn't mind owning one someday, just not now.

Great advice about the buzz. I'll definitely look out for that. Regarding corts... I tried some out over the weekend and wasn't impressed. I tested out a X-custom that was going for 730,000 won and I didn't find it very comfortable to play at all. Not sure how to describe it... the fretboard was much too flat. Back inthe day I had a strat and I much prefer the rounded fretboard I began playing on.

I'll keep the Swing Exciter in mind. Cheers. And I'll most definitely let you know what I end up getting. I may go for Ibanez if I can find one I like.
