My friend is 45 and wants to work in Korea. He would like to know if the Hakwons are going to require him to send his college transcripts and diploma.

Will they?

Or are his 15 years of teaching ESL enough?

it's not a school requirement it's a VISA requirement. Immigration won't issue a visa without transcripts and degrees.

i've understood it that schools ask for transcripts just in case (ie just in case immigration wants to see them which is random)

but the degree is necessary. in my case, i had to send degree AND transcripts before the school even tried to process my visa

Here are some other threads about Degrees & Transcripts and you'll note that it seems that everyone has had a different experience! There's a lack of consistency with Immigration which is both perplexing and frustrating.

1. Are Transcripts Really Necessary to get an E2 Visa?
2. Original Degree or Notorized Copy?
3. Notarized Degrees: How Many Should I Get?
