According to the website http://dla.go.kr/eng/main.jsp in order to get a driver's licence in Korea I need to submit a confirmation letter from my embassy, I guess to confirm the validity of my licence.
Did any Canadians need this? Was it hard to get? I haven't had too many experiences of the Canadian embassy being super-cooperative. |

I got my Korean license over 3 years ago. Im sure some things have changed. |

| Just show up to the licensing bureau and take your provincial license, 2 or 3 photos of yourself (smaller than passport size) and 10,000 won. It is that easy. I was there for an hour, but most of that time was just them making my card. |

I went and traded my Canadian license just last year, probably right around this time, and I didn't need anything of the sort. I showed up with my license, my photos, my money, my aliens card and my passport and it was done in about an hour. I didn't have to do much except take a quick eye test and that was that. Valid til 2014 so I'm safe til I go home (my wife and I are thinking 2010).

P.S. - I got my co-worker to call ahead of time for me to make sure we had exactly what we needed when we went. I would do that if I were you because the websites don't seem to be updated super often. Good luck!  |

Maybe a map of Canada too. My license is from Nunavut. They probably have never heard of it. |

I did exactly this last week.... in and out in 15 minutes! |

Went yesterday over lunch, picked it up today at lunch. I could have waited another hour and picked it up then, but I had work to do. The clerk didn��t even notice the Nunavut issue, but was happy to take my map of Canada, just in case.
Also, with my maiden name on my old licence, and my married name in my passport, it was all okay. I'd shown her an old expired passport, which she photocopied. They seem to really "get it" that we sometimes change our names after marriage.
Just an eye test and we were done! Expires 2015. |

Do you have trade in your Canadian license when you get your Korean license? If I take my Canadian license in to get a Korean license, does it mean giving up my Canadian license? If that's the case, can I transfer the Korean license back to a Canadian license when I return to Canada?
Also, I am wondering -- since my international license issued in Canada has expired, would I be able to get an international license issued in Korea based on a Korean driver's license (even though I'm not Korean)? |

Trade in your license? No. You keep the card.
Give up your Canadian License? No. But, Canadian driver's licenses tend to expire after one or two years.. if it expires.. no big deal just have to go pay the fee and get it started when you get back.
You can drive on your Korean license for 3 months in British Columbia (not sure of other provinces) but when you change provinces most have a residency limit and when you hit it.. you must get a license for that province.. (Saskatchewan, Alberta, and BC all the same)... it works the same way.
On the international question... I am under the impression that you can.. although I believe here the domestic is acceptable in Canada and I have not checked if you need extra paperwork. |

Is that license for cars or for ski-doos and quads? |
