Just to play devil's advocate, what would you say to those on the other side of the argument?
The ones who say that smoking has been proven to be harmful not only to the smoker but to others around him/her via second hand smoke?
That the only reason smoking hasn't been banned is the government's dependence on tax revenues generated by smoking, and that the government is criminally negligent to NOT ban smoking?
That if personal freedom and individuality were of prime importance why not agitate for the striking down of seatbelt and safety helmet laws, which can arguably be shown to have less harmful negative affects to others than smoking does?
That if you're worried about organized crime and proscribed substances, why not agitate for the decriminalization of heroin, cocaine, and methamphetamine? |

I do endorse the abolition of all laws that violate the principle of individual self-ownership and responsibility. This includes, but is not limited to, drug laws (repeal them), bike helmet and seat belt laws (repeal them), the restriction of homosexual marriage and all income taxes (abolish the tax code as it is).
To be very general, I'd like to see a government that does nothing more than protect persons and private property and enforces contracts.
Every step away from liberty is a giant leap down a slippery slope towards tyranny. |

Also, some people just like to control what others do. This vice is particularly evident in government. Never underestimate the depths of government stupidity and how far it is willing to go to control.

Indeed. I think that this is what is afoot when more regulation and bans are proposed. More rules and regulations manufacture criminals. And the more criminals that can be produced, the more control control that is given to governments. |
