A recent teacher's discussion class got me thinking about wedding proposals. I told them examples of an engagement ring in a fortune cookie, or the proposal on scoreboards at sporting events. The Korean teachers told me that proposals in Korea are not as romantic as they are in North America, and that a lot of thought isn't put into it. However, women in North America expect a very romantic proposal (at least, my sister did, but was disappointed).

Share your stories, please. How did you propose to your spouse, or how were you proposed to? I would go first, but I'm not married.

The first proposal (we sort of agreed) didn't really count. We'd talked about marriage a lot.... we say it was basically jsut one of those conversations.

I "really" proposed in a B&B on my first night back from korea on our deck looking over the pacific ocean on the sunshine coast. The air was clean (a treat in itself after korea), the wine was comparatively delicious and it was quiet and still.

then we ate ribs, got high and had a kickass hot tub.

good times.

i proposed this past christmas eve at english bay in vancouver.

it's where i met my girlfriend 3 years ago while rollerblading.

after she said yes, i broke out a bottle of tequila and we celebrated on the beach.

then off to thunder bay the next morning to party with my family and friends.

Well, we was in a tea shop in Seoul. We were talking (I thought) about us and futures and this and that. *I* thought we had had "one of those conversations" as stated above. For her, it was about six weeks later in another conversation that *I* thought was about making arrangements related to the previous conversation. Luckily, we were both going in the same general direction.

Both were nice, romatic moments, so I guess it worked out either way.

How we met, and what happened that day is the real story. Beginnings usually are, no?

In a tiny venice restaurant, complete with red and white checkered tqable cloths, getting smashed on local wine, pasta and pizza, and sorta giggled our way through the conversation. it finally hit us that afternoon, back at the hotel, that yues, we were engaged. didnt have a ring, as wifey really wanted to choose it herself. " if im gunna wear it fot the rest of my life, im gunna choose it" type thing. fine with me. i eventually got down on one knee in a restaurant here in daejeon, and proposed in the traditional corny way, but i guess you girls dig that!

My Korean fiance and I went for a walk along the Han River. Since we had already lived with each other in Toronto and Korea, I wanted to assure her we would be together forever.
There is a spot close to river near building 63 where a little beach appears. I got down on one knee and asked her to marry me. I gave her a very special ring that although had very little financial value, was highly sentimental to me. I really wanted her to understand how committed I was to her and how special she was to me.

Unfortunately if you happen upon ��our spot�� this beach is not quite as special.

Thanks for the observation regarding me refering to her as my girlfriend, instead of fiance or wife. I edited the post.

That's why us men get in trouble.....women notice everything.

There was no formal proposal in my case. My wife and I were just sitting down and talking about marriage, and figured out what would be the best time to do it. After we did that, we looked at each other and realized, "Hey! We're engaged!"

On the beach in Guam after a nice dinner at one of the hotels. One knee, all that good stuff. She wanted to rush back to the car so she could see the rock under the light, make sure she hadn't made a terrible mistake saying yes.

Fabulous jewelry is always my wife's first priority.
