| Okay, so I got to Korea and bought a dog, I don't know why he was just cute! I'm wondering if anyone knows the process on taking the dog to Canada. I have read several websites saying that a dog entering Canada doesn't need to be quarantined. Any information you have, I'd love to hear it. Thanks |

i took my dog to canada that i got in korea and it was no problem. there is no quarantine. just get your vet to print you out the right papers (in english) that show your dog's shots are up to date.
it cost me a little over $200 to take him to canada. not too bad i thought. oh, he's just a poodle. guess it depends on the size. |

Size and weight of the dog + kennel will determine the cost. You MUST have a kennel that is large enough for the dog to turn around in. Food and water must be in the kennel, so try to get a spill-resistant bowl. This is an IATA regulation and the load master will check this. If you have a LARGE dog finding an appropriately-sized kennel in Korea may be difficult as this is the lap-dog nation. You can get a kennel made, but it'll be wood and heavy, and will add to the cost of shipping. Shipping an obese golden retriever in a wooden kennel (approx. 80kg) from Incheon to Dallas was $1300 on KAL.
Vaccinations must be up-to-date, and I recall the most recent rabies vaccination can be no earlier than 30 days before flying. A health certificate from the vet is also needed, and this has to be very recent; I recall no older than 10 days before flight.
For those will NOT accompany the dog on the trip you MUST get a written statement from the person who will pick up the dog at the destination airport. This was an airline requirement. The document will be given to the airline before it accepts the dog.
I used a freight-forwarding agent (Sabena Choi at HanYang, 02-717-3900) that picked up the dog, had the kennel made, etc. I took care of the vet documents. |

When I flew on Air Canada, I was told that:
1) the dog should NOT have food or water on the flight....(so if it's an IATA regulation it's either new or AC is ignoring it)
but
2) The owner should give the animal a little bit of food...and a bit of water but not a lot... you don't want to cause the animal discomfort.
I had no vet health statements (well, i had a 3 week old certificate)...
don't worry about big kennels....you CAN buy them...
Where do you live? I actually have one i NEED to get rid of.

holy cow!
Ok...I'm just going to have to say that our experiences were completely different...
in terms of into canada, really don't fret about it too much. MAKE sure the that vet papers and shots are all good and there won't be any real problem. |

| Check out Chungmuro Station for dog stuff. There are a gazillion shops all selling pets and pet supplies. Last time I went, I think they had large size dog carriers in a couple of stores there. |
